Welcome to Hoodland!
Please read this post first if you are thinking of joining.
You can comment to this post with any questions you may have that you're not sure where to ask. You can also send a private message (PM) to either of the two mods: mai_shiranui and mai_shiranui.
How it works
Hoodland is an ongoing competition with games and challenges based around the three series of the recent BBC show "Robin Hood" (2006-2009).
The competition is between Team Outlaws and Team Leather.
Each round of competition lasts about three months. The current round is running from Monday May 3rd to Monday 26th July.
Games and Challenges
Each week one challenge and two games will usually be posted.
Challenges start and finish on Mondays, usually around 5-7pm GMT (1-3pm Eastern Daylight Time) and are open for two weeks (so there are usually two challenges running concurrently). Challenges are things like writing short pieces of fanfiction, designing icons, etc.
Games will be posted twice-weekly around the same time as the challenges on Monday and then at roughly the same time on Thursday. They will usually be open for one week. Games are things like crosswords, trivia, anagrams, etc.
All entries to games and challenges are made as comments to the original post. (These comments will be screened so only the mods know who entered what).
All challenges and some games will require voting to determine the best entry. Voting will usually take place from Monday to Sunday.
(It's not mandatory but will be very useful for some games and challenges if you have an account on an image hosting site like photobucket - we will accept graphics by email however.)
Points
You earn points by participating in activities.
Games will be a minimum of 10 points for participation and 30/20/10 for first, second, third when the game requires voting.
Challenges will be a minimum of 20 points for participation and 50/40/30 for first, second, third.
Points may vary depending on the difficulty of the game/challenge (higher difficulty = more points, lower difficulty = less points).
Five points will be given for casting a vote for each challenge or game that requires them.
You can also earn points if you provide an idea for a game or challenge that gets used or if someone else joins hoodland and lets us know that you recommended it to them.
Participation
You must take part in at least 33% of the games and 33% of the challenges (i.e. at least 1 out of every 3 challenges and games). Voting does not count as taking part.
If you are unable to take part for any length of time for any reason please get in touch with one of the mods. If you do not participate (and we haven't heard from you) then the mods will send you a polite "Where the hell are you?" message. Continued non-participation will result in you being removed from the hoodland comms and you may lose your position on your team to someone else. (You will of course be very welcome to reapply at any time.)
We know that's harsh - take it up with the Sheriff... Joining and then not taking part is not fair to your team mates and may be denying somebody else the chance to play.

Please let us know your age, which team you'd prefer to be on (if any) and which timezone you're located in.
Please note we can't always put people on the team they'd like and may ask you to join the other team. If you don't want to, just say so and we'll keep you on the list until a position comes free on the team of your choice.
Once you are assigned to a team (Outlaws or Leather) you will receive five community membership invitations: to hoodland, hlnottingham, hlsherwood, hllocksley and finally to your team comm, teamoutlaws or teamleather. (You can view your invitations here).
Communities
hoodland This is the main community. In here you will find all information and reminders/updates. You must join and watch this community once you are invited.
hlnottingham This is the challenge/task community. You must join this community. Watching it is not a necessity but is highly recommended otherwise you may miss the start of a challenge!
hlsherwood This is the games community. You must join this community but again watching it is not a necessity (although it is highly recommended for the same reason).
hllocksley This is the socializing community. In here you can talk to everyone in the community about whatever you want. Anything goes! As long as it's not too obscene/mean/rude. Starting discussions is highly encouraged. You can also post anything you entered into a challenge/task (like fic or graphics) here as long as the challenge/task has finished. There is a general free-for-all spam post on Fridays, hosted by mai_shiranui.
teamoutlaws This is the team community for Team Outlaws. If you are accepted into Team Outlaws you will be invited here. You have to join and watch this community. Your team leader is nowcarpediem.
teamleather This is the team community for Team Leather. If you are accepted into Team Leather you will be invited here. You have to join and watch this community. Your team leader is juliet42. Your co-team leads are mai_shiranui and mai_shiranui.
NOTE: In the team communities you are allowed to talk about anything you want. (We recommend the first thing you should do is introduce yourself to your new team-mates!) The mods should be posting alerts and reminders for games and challenges but if you see something go up that the mod hasn't seen yet then please feel free to post it yourself. You are also allowed to ask for hints on any games you're having difficulty with UNLESS the game/challenge post specifically says NO HINTS. Running your own activities in the team community is also allowed. However, they will not be worth any points and are just for fun. Anyone can run one in their own team.

Sig tags are small banners to go at the end of your posts. Generally they will say your name and team. If you choose to use one please make sure that the maximum size is 300x150.
