This was supposed to be an insta-rec post (for the first fic listed here) but then there was all this other stuff I wanted to rec too... STOP BEING SO TALENTED, EVERYONE. :-D

Author’s notes/summary: The apocalypse was nigh, they were stuck in a deluge that would’ve made Noah nervous, Dean had the freakin’ flu, and Sam had broken the car. Spoilers: up to 5x4, AU Season 5 afterwards. R, gen.
Reccer's notes: Featuring sick!Dean AND angsty!Sam, this is a fantastic look at what the boys must be going through with everything they have hanging over their heads this season. It’s really lovely to see them each taking care of the other this way.

Broken Heart by hansons_angel [WIP]
Author’s notes/summary: Dean has carried around the effects of rheumatic fever since he was young. Things begin to catch up with him right after he and Sam reunite after the Stanford era. This takes place in S1 before "Faith." A look at how much Dean has sacrificed - past and present - while hunting with a chronic and sometimes life-threatening condition. AU, flashbacks to wee!Chesters and teen!Chesters, but story is mainly about Sam and Dean in S1. Not quite sure where this will lead except the episode “Faith” is on my mind. Some things I think I’ll try and tie into it. Not rated, gen.
Reccer's notes: I’m never sure if I’ll be able to handle these Dean-with-chronic-illness fics, but brilliant authors keep proving me wrong! hansons_angel's writing, like always, is hard-hitting, poetic when you least expect it, and filled with a realism that a lot of fics don’t have, but that I really appreciate. It’s all too plausible to me that something like this could have taken place in their childhoods.
Oh, and I loooove the fact that Sam is the one keeping tabs on Dean’s heart all the time, that he knows Dean is sick before even Dean knows.

Author’s notes/summary: Sam loved his brother. He did. But he couldn't let himself get used to having Dean around. An AU in which Dean suffers from cystic fibrosis, a chronic illness of the lungs. Stanford era. PG, gen.
Reccer's notes: This fic is also incredibly realistic. I’ve had a visceral reaction to several things in this one - it’s just written so vividly, and never pulls any punches. It doesn’t shy away from the bad parts of the brothers’ characters, but at the same time, the love between them is so, so PRESENT at all times. It's amazing. I completely adore this author’s version of Jess as well; we need more fic featuring her!
