I love a good, long, well-written fic that you can really sink your teeth into. It's so satisfying! Here are just a few such long-fics.
Exit Wounds by
backinblack Author’s notes/summary: Dean, brought back from hell, deals with dreams and things not quite fitting into place. Warnings: Noncon, dubcon, Dean in hell, mentions of violence and gore, explicit hardcore sex (emphasis on explicit), some unsavory situations involving tentacles. Seriously. I know this sounds dire and may put some people off, but give it a chance! NC-17, Demon/Dean, Other/Dean, Sam/Dean.
Reccer’s notes:
maypoles says: What the author said in the warnings!
I’m really glad I gave this one a chance. This is an original, compelling look at post-hell Dean. Told from his deceptively calm POV, this fic managed to shock me and disturb me like only the best horror can. And I can’t neglect to mention overly!protective!Sam, who is SO scarily hot.

Red by
big_pink Author's notes/summary: Something evil is killing treeplanters in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, possibly the same predator that Dean narrowly escaped years before. How Grimm will things get before the brothers figure it out? PG-13, gen.
Reccer's notes:
maypoles says: This fic has been recced everywhere, but no one should miss it. Yeah, it's a hurt!Dean epic, but it's also just plain epic. It's also a 100% beautifully constructed story.

And Hell Followed With Him by
legoline Author’s notes/summary: Dean's gone to Hell, and Hell's come to Earth. After the apocalypse, Sam is the leader of some of the last remaining people who are continually caught in a struggle against the demons that walk amongst them. Castiel, burdened by a terrible secret, has gone into hiding among the humans. One day, four years after his deal was up, a battered Dean returns from Hell at the same time that suspicions begin that there is a mole in the camp. While Sam and Dean are too broken to find the courage to believe in the reality of what has happened, rumors of treason spread quickly across the camp. With the tension nearing a breaking point, Sam is suddenly faced with the possibility that his brother, who he once thought was gone to him forever, has returned and is bringing Hell with him. An alternate take on season 4. Rated "R" for language, violence and dark themes. Lots of Dean!whumpage and angst. Gen.
Reccer’s notes: An anon says: A well-crafted and well-realized AU. I LOVED all the twists. I’m a big fan of the mystery genre and you don’t get that a lot in fic. It hurt that Dean was so broken here, but I found this story to be actually quite hopeful in the end, and incredibly satisfying.

Blind Spot by
pdragon76 Author’s notes/summary: Dean’s on a slow burn after a bloody confrontation with an old nemesis. Sam’s got his hands full picking up the pieces. The Crossroads Deal isn’t the only timer ticking. AU, set six months after AHBL2. S3 free-zone. Warnings for language, whump and sex. NC-17, gen.
Reccer’s notes:
maypoles says: Oh man, this is one of my favourite SPN fics. EVER. Incredibly well-plotted and characterized, with high levels of Dean!whump that are never gratuitous, but just right. Kind of makes me never want to bother writing anything again. It’s that good!

Swear By All Flowers by
sweetestdrain Author’s notes/summary: Two years after the yellow-eyed demon is defeated, the Winchesters are still waiting for their happy ending. 37,000+ words. Warnings for language and adult content. Call it NC-17 to be safe, Sam/Dean.
Reccer’s notes:
rei17 says: This is one of the most beautiful fics of all times. I haven't even words to describe how incredibly beautiful it is. Dean comes close to dying due to a curse and Sam does everything to save him and no summary in the whole wide word could ever do this fic justice. Just read it. Even if you hate wincest, just give it a try.

The Woods are Lonely, Dark and Deep by
zatnikatel Author’s notes/summary: N/A, not rated. Gen.
Reccer's notes:
marlowe78 says: After leaving Kathleen Hudak, Dean gets snatched by Missy Bender and her brother, because Missy is deeply in love with the 'purty boy'. That is the beginning of Dean's first encounter with Hell, way before he died. This fic started as a tag to "The Benders" but went way beyond. What I like about this is the breathlessness the author creates, the style is fantastic and she has written a wonderful Kathleen Hudak, who I adore and admire and who I can absolutely picture as a tough and capable police-officer. Zatnikatel hurts Dean not really more than any other author, but she strips him of his personality along the way and leaves him broken, shattered and nearly beyond repair. Warning: reference to non-con, heavy violence, heavy swearing, substance abuse and violent deaths of animals and people (no Winchesters, Singer or Hudak, though).

The Killing Moon by
zatnikatel [WIP]
Author’s notes/summary: N/A, not rated. Sequel to
The Woods are Lonely, Dark and Deep. Gen.
Reccer's notes:
marlowe78 says: The Winchesters get called back to Hibbing county to help Kathleen Hudak with some very unnatural disappearances of hikers in the woods. Bobby and Sam don't really want to take a still more-than-messed-up Dean, but are left with no choice. What I like about this: while "The Woods..." is focused on messing up and hurting Dean, (and Sam by default) the sequel puts the main focus on how to fix someone who seems to be beyond repair. She writes wonderful inner-voices, mainly Dean and Sam and Kathleen, sets a pace that leaves you gasping for air and creates a suspenseful plot around a human ship-wreck. I admire her ability to show the reader that violence, abduction and torture - and the after-effects thereof - mess not only with the victim, but traumatizes the family nearly as much, though on a whole different level. The story is full of twists and turns and still more hurt for poor Dean. In a nutshell: a perfect fic. (Same warnings as "The Woods...")
