Wrong Time by anonymous
Author’s notes/summary: After failing at life behind the white picket fence, Dean returns to Arkansas, hoping to put to rest a case that has been haunting him since he and Sam were teenagers. 15,840 words. Spoilers through season 5, some language. PG-13, gen.
Reccer’s notes: Protective!Sam + Protective!Dean + Protective!John = AWESOME.
To elaborate, this is a genuinely creepy casefile with seamless shifts between past and present. I love that it gives us a balanced characterization of John, who’s written as being both a difficult man, and a good father. There’s also a wonderful portrayal of Sam on the cusp of adulthood, where we can see that he’s a kid but won’t be for much longer. And then of course there’s Dean, who won’t let his fierce protectiveness for his family be tamped down by illness or anything else, no matter what age he is.
The author of this fic is currently anonymous, as it was written for the lovely
spn_summergen fic exchange. I’m way behind on my fic reading this summer, but I can’t wait to check out more of these. So many of the prompts look super interesting!
