grab bag recs (fic; gen, Sam/Dean, Dean/OFC, Dean/OMC)
Have some recs! It's a totally mixed batch tonight, all kinds of different genre/pairings, with everything from schmoop city to dark!fic making an appearance.

Reccer's notes: Sneaky!Sam is my FAVOURITE. This was super-adorable. de_nugis is on fire lately; she posted another fic (also gen) here just yesterday which is just as adorable and features Dean + hamsters. No, seriously!

Radio's Jammed with Gospel Stations by dreamlittleyo and leonidaslion @ radios_jammed [WIP]
Author’s notes/summary: John wasn't supposed to die on a routine hunt. Sam wasn't supposed to stick to Dean's side like he'd been glued there afterwards. And Dean sure as hell wasn't supposed to turn into the poster boy for Ripley's Believe It Or Not. Sometimes things just don't go the way they're supposed to. Warnings and ratings will be listed in the headers of the fic as posted. The beginning is gen, and there will be Sam/Dean (as the primary pairing) and Dean/OMC later on.
Reccer’s notes: I know I’ve seen this recced around quite a bit, but for some reason I just picked it up this week! Anyway, I love it a lot. Dean trying to take care of Sam after their father’s death, and Sam having to take care of Dean in a way he never has before is very engaging, as is the mysterious case they fall into later on in the story. This is a WIP, but it was updated as recently as a few weeks ago.

Author’s notes/summary: In an attempt to save a disillusioned hunter from himself, Dean and Sam are caught in a spell that sends them to 1870 Texas. Surviving the old west is hard enough. Escaping it could prove to be impossible. This story is set in Season 1 after 1.16, Shadow. Approximately 120,000 words. PG-13, Dean, Sam, gen.
Reccer’s notes: Dean and Sam decked out in gunslinger-attire? I am SO THERE. A recently finished WIP, this features such a well-thought out casefile as well, and great brotherly banter. I loved getting back into that season one vibe with this.

Author’s notes/summary: Five ways Dean Winchester has thought of killing himself. 1,450 words. Vague spoilers through 5.12. PG. Sam, Dean, gen.
Reccer’s notes: This is a sharp, hurty little fic that I found to be extremely believable. The author beautifully captures Dean’s profound tiredness that we caught glimpses of in season 5, as well as his inability to give up the fight despite himself.

Author’s notes/summary: The summer before Sam's senior year of high school, John Winchester is more caught up in solo hunting than the boys have ever seen him before. When an incubus' curse befalls Dean, it's up to Sam to save his brother while the curse tests the boundaries of his relationship with Dean. There are no easy answers and soon both boys are feeling the effects as their lives spin out of control. Guest-starring YED and other denizens of hell. Warnings: Dub-con and non-con. Dark!fic. Brief non-con with not!Sam. Pre-series, somewhat of an AU of season one. NC-17, Sam/Dean, not!Sam/Dean, Dean/OCs (on and off-screen), Sam/Jess.
Reccer’s notes: Oh, how I love a good long!fic. As I said in my feedback to the author, I very much enjoyed this. The way she wrote Sam and Dean's relationship felt so real, so immediate. And her version of Jess felt that way too, just... right.
This was an all-around solid piece of writing; I’d totally read it again.

Reccer’s notes: I appreciate fics where Dean’s one night stands are fleshed-out characters like this, and I particularly like this OFC, who thinks she’s getting one thing based on the swaggering persona that is flirty!Dean, and ends up getting something entirely different. Her observations of Dean are great, and the Dean angst is epic, but not overblown.
