“Hold Dean while I try and break the wood,” John told him and Sam grabbed Dean by the shoulders. He was shocked by the injury. He was not used to seeing so much blood coming from his brother, the entire bottom half of Dean’s shirt was now completely red and sticky.
“It’s okay,” Sam tried to reassure his older brother. “It’s all okay.”
“Course it is Sammy,” Dean gave a weak smile. “Be better in no time,” he shuddered violently as he started to cough.
“Dean?” Sam said in a small panicked voice. “Are you okay?”
“Can’t breathe,” Dean gasped. “Hurts,” he said as the coughing continued. Sam was horrified to see that he was now coughing up blood.
“Got it,” John exclaimed as he finally broke the wood and he and Sam managed to lift Dean up. “Let’s get him to the hospital,” he said to Sam who quickly nodded in agreement. They moved quickly to get him to the car.
Dean was looking worse by the minute, his skin had now lost all colour and Sam was very afraid that his brother may not make it. John must have seen his fear as he turned to his youngest son.
“Don’t worry,” John told him, his voice filled with sympathy. “Dean will be just fine,” and for once Sam actually believed him.

Dean groaned as he woke up. He felt like death. At least he didn't feel any pain anymore, he assumed that was from being pumped full of painkillers. It was a good feeling; as though he was floating. He never wanted to come back down to earth.
“How are you feeling?” He heard a voice from beside him. It was John. Dean cracked his eyes open slowly and saw his dad sitting there with a gentle smile on his face. He was happy to see his son awake.
“Crap,” Dean slurred in reply. He didn’t have the energy for long sentences. He moved his hand over to his side and gingerly touched his wound. He winced in pain at the touch.
“You’ll feel better soon, son. Just leave the wound alone until you are,” John joked.
“Where’s Sam?” Dean asked sleepily.
“He’s at the motel, I told him to get some rest.”
“Good idea,” Dean replied. “Tired.”
“Then go to sleep,” John smiled and rested his hand over Dean’s. “We’ll be here when you wake up.”
“Thanks,” Dean smiled back and closed his eyes again.
