How have I survived?

The beautiful, wonderful, intelligent, and always savvy
sarahetc gave me the first season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer for Christmas. Because the beautiful, wonderful, and VERY LOUD princess that is my daughter decided to wake up at 5 am on Saturday and only Mom would do, I finally got a chance to start watching.

I've only managed to see the first two episodes, and already I'm totally in love with the show. I want to call in sick to work and gorge on the rest of season 1. Giles is indescribably wonderful. Buffy kicks some serious ASS. And there is just so much more to love, and I know the show only gets better.

One thing I really, really liked was how the first ep wasn't all explain-y. This is something I've noticed about Joss Whedon shows. The whole 'verse isn't explained explicitly - we're left to learn about it as the show progress, and we don't necessarily start at the "beginning." Buffy has been slaying before we meet her, and we join her at a logical starting point to her story. But, the first eps weren't all set-up. I don't think I'm explaining this well.
So, in addition to having a huge pile of books to read, I now have a huge pile of DVDs to watch. Sleep? Who needs it?
