Finally got around to watching this the other night. Our Tivo cut off the last few minutes, though, so I hope I didn't miss anything vital.
David Morrisey was brilliant, playing a man so traumatized by events that he entered a fugue state, and confused his life with that of the Doctor's. One question, though, I thought that Time Lords could sense other Time Lords? Or at least themselves if they met themselves? Or have I pulled that thought out of my backside? Because otherwise he (the Doctor) should have known that Morrisey wasn't actually THE Doctor, right?
The story itself was a bit weak - London, yet again being terrorized on Christmas. I know this was the Christmas special and all, so the Christmas part doesn't bother me so much, but can't some other poor city bare the brunt of the world destruction? That's just me being nitpicky, I suppose, but it gets old after a while. And I'd really like to see some villain other than the Cybermen or (as much as I love them) the Daleks. They've been done to death, and I want something new. Made me realize how much I'm looking forward to RTD leaving, even if I'm not looking as forward to DT leaving the scene.
The companion, Rosita, was not much. I think she was under-utilized, with Morrisey essentially playing the role of companion for the purposes of this episode. The bits with her in it were pretty awesome, but one thing - I have a hard time believing that she needed saving by Morrisey's "Doctor" - she seems pretty together and brave when we know her, so why should she have been so different just a few weeks prior?
And that's my take on it. Nothing earth-shattering. Anybody else have any thoughts?
