The afternoon was fairly slow. The Bell Bar didn't usually pick up until about six o'clock and Katie took the time to have a look at the
Muggle newspaper, as well as the Prophet. She tried to keep up on the news as much as possible.
Katie shook her head at the
way the Muggles were handling the flood, thinking that if it were a strictly Wizarding community, the water would have been gone and the damages dealt with fairly quickly. Flipping the page, Katie found some news regarding
the little girl Katie had been so worried about. Finally someone had been arrested for this awful, horrible thing. Hopefully the little girl would be returned to her family as quickly as possible and the McCanns would have a happy ending. Katie couldn't imagine what she would do if anything ever happened to her niece, let alone if she had her own children. Katie made a mental note to send the
Find Madeleine! people a donation. Even if it wasn't large, it would be helpful and Katie could spare a few quid for the cause.
Katie had always had a sense of charity, which perhaps was ingrained in her by her parents from an early age. Her parents had never struggled for money and they often entertained, but usually with a purpose. Many a fundraiser had been held at the manor by
Kathryn and
Antonin, as Katie knew her parents to be called. She hadn't had much contact with them growing up as they'd always been working on some charity event or work-related project. They'd often gone off on holiday without Katie and Eammon, leaving them to the house with the help. It was certainly a large enough place and they'd never had a lack of things to do or people to spend time with. Perhaps that's one of the reasons Katie liked owning a bar so much. There were always people around if you wanted them and, if not, then one could almost always escape for a quiet pint in the back corner.
Katie flipped the last page of the Times over and started in on the Prophet. Something in the society gossip column caught her eye. Marcel St. Hubert, the French liaison to the Department of International Magical Cooperation, was overheard at a party hosted by Joost Vanderskellar, the Dutch liaison, to say he'd not heard anything official nor gotten a formal invitation to the Triwizard Tournament. Katie wondered to herself what this could possibly mean. Was St. Hubert forgotten? Had he just been left out? Hadn't anyone received invitations? This was certainly odd. Katie scowled to herself as she flipped the page.
She went on reading the Prophet as a few people walked into the bar, all the while wondering what exactly this upcoming event would mean for Wizarding Britain.
