Death Note: Light Up the New World
So my friend told me last week about the launching of the movie as well as asking for ppl to go there in cosplay. Initially wasn't planning to join... but I guess I ended up coming anyway. And I'm not regretting the decision.
Tbh, Death Note used to be special for me. And funny enough. Yagami Raito was one of the first few anime characters that I started to cosplay as. So there was that kinda nostalgia.... in which some few years before, I stopped watching anything involving Death Note. So this movie was the first one I watched since then. When Obata Takeshi and Ohba Tsugumi ended the manga in a very disappointing way. I was angry, you know. Because I had thought that Raito would have chosen to die in a much more dignified manner. But the manga made him go pathetically. So naturally, that end having broke my heart so much I swore off the series. Even as much as I had wanted to read that last chapter with L, I did notend up readingit. And the anime, that used to still in mid-air... I stopped following it. Even when later on I hear that the anime took a different end than manga. As well as the third DN movie, I didn't end up watching it.... but that's also influenced by real life stuff. So far I haven't started watching the drama.... or the stageplay too. So yeah... for almost 7-8 years, I somewhat kept my grudge over those two.
The movie was fun... and interesting. I love the returning characters; I mean, we can't have daddy Yagami back... but I love seeing the return of Matsuda Touta, played by Aoyama Sota-san, Amane Misa, played by Toda Erika... and of course, Yagami Raito, played by Fujiwara Tatsuya. Even if it turned out as a recorded video. Oh! Let's not forget Ryuuku too. The new casts were also amazing. Been a while since I last watched any of Sudacchi's recent dramas or movies so it surprised me to hear how his voice had grown deeper~ the new shinigami was also damn cool, tho I somewhat feel like they did appearly briefly in manga. Cos I somewhat feel that Arma was familiar... and if I'm not wrong, Rem can no longer exist. Tho I missed her too. Arma's fate parallel'd Rem in a sense.
Another thing that I like about the movie was how it gets back to mirroring the events back when L and Raito were still alive. The neo Kira was almost similar to Raito... no, he did end up doing exactly the same thing as Raito have. And that was so satisfying. The plot twist was satisfying. The movie might have ended vaguely... aka the search for Kira's successor continuing; but even then by that point it was clear that the only Death Note holder that came close to being similar to Kira was 'that person'. Ryukku did seem to imply it, after all. So far, 'he' was the only one Ryukku told about the true reasoning of the search for Kia's successor. Though he probably wouldn't have liked to take the throne of the Underworld.
