[ Hughes could understand why not everyone would be so keen on chatting it up with people who'd had relationships built on lies and intense memory-shifting. Not everyone had replied to what he'd put out, but that was to be expected; it was just short of a miracle that he'd spoken with as many not-family members as he had. He'd weighed his options, and decided on giving things time. It could either work out for better or for worse, in cases like this, but coming back around too late was better than pushing too soon.
So a voice hail it was. ]
Have a minute, Leo? [ ... ] Ah, or do you prefer Leonardo?

[Ah yes, he remembers you. His not-father from that crazy experiment. He's not sure how he feels, but he can't really blame Hughes. It wasn't the mans fault after all.]

Leonardo, then.
I know I can't say our last time speaking was under the most desirable circumstances. Luceti has a way of managing that. [ And a brief pause while he gives it a little thought. Definitely a hard guy to read, this one. Honesty is always a good policy in the face of that. It felt like a very useful experiment for driving wedges between various people, really. ] ...but I thought I'd see how you were doing anyway.

[Leo's spent most of his life working on the mask that he often hides behind. He's a little amused though.]
We do seem to keep meeting under strange circumstances. [Now that he thought about it, he remembers he met the man during the draft too. He turns a little more serious though at this part.]
I'm doing well. Still aggravated at the Malnosso, who just manipulate us like it's nothing.

Aa, we got through it well enough; Elicia's a very tenacious girl, you know. I think we even have a few new permanent additions to the family. [ Because adoption is just the Hughes Way. ] How are you and yours?

Sounds like you did come out of it fine, then.
[He sighs a little, frowning on his side.]
I needed a few days, but I'm fine. [Which is a half truth. He's fine to a point, but then he's bottling up a lot of it.]
Two of my brothers and my father came out of it all right. But my third brother...he was kidnapped by the Malnosso during the experiment. We're still waiting for his return.
[He doesn't sound happy about it. How long did they plan to keep him?]

They've got a real knack for finding their way under a person's skin.

[ And that's about all there is to it, really. Battles of wills and being grateful to be alive. He's learned to leave it at that. ]
... Ah. I'm sorry to hear that.

[That's the important thing, to be sure.]
Thank you.
