It was the hot part of the day, which in the Fire Nation, a volcanic archipelago near the world's equator, meant something. Court always stopped for an hour or two at the height of the afternoon, and everyone adjourned to wait out the miserable humidity.
Zuko had shed his robes as fast as he possibly could and was using the given time to go through his forms. He wasn't one to let something like weather stop him from training as he wanted, but he couldn't practice lightning in such a populated area, anyway, which was what he really wanted to do; so instead he was brushing up on his hand-to-hand. He'd been using quite a bit of it lately with the community always catching him off guard, and strictly speaking, traditional firebenders didn't use steel weapons and weren't allowed to in agni kai. It was worth it to keep up.
For once, he wasn't in the turtle-duck courtyard, but rather in the Fire Lord's private garden. Occasionally, he just had to get away from all the people flocking around him, and his Grand Secretary and other hangers-on had quickly learned to leave their Fire Lord alone while he was practicing. Zuko advanced across the grass, certain patches singed from previous days, and let himself stop thinking and simply focus.
