THIS IS EXTREMELY NO LONGER BEING UPDATED.
FAMILY
IROH [AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER]
Where to start with Uncle? Iroh was everything to Zuko throughout the series, and he took the extra two years of separation in this AU particularly hard. It impacted his self-confidence a fair amount, and he's especially glad to see his uncle again now that he's ended the war.
Zuko has verbally and openly admitted, at least once or twice, that he considers Iroh his father. He means it. It's not an easy thing for him to say, but it summarizes their relationship well: the guiding force ever since he was banished, Zuko didn't always appreciate or take to heart the things his uncle told him. Over time, he came to regret that, and as he tells Katara in the finale, he's never felt sorrier for anything in his life than he has for betraying his uncle in Ba Sing Se. Given what else has happened to him, this is a huge indicator of how much he's come to realize Iroh means to him.
Even if at times he does still find him ridiculous and over-the-top, he'll forgive him anything because of what he's done for him, and Zuko will never, ever forget that.
AZULA [AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER]
Zuko doesn't exactly hate his sister, especially given Lilith's influence on the subject, but it's a near call. She delights in making him miserable and is incurably and persistently stubborn on not believing anything he says. The fact that she thinks he wants to kill her hurts him even though he knows better. He knows what she's like, and knows he shouldn't care any more, but he does.
He wants to see her redeem herself from everything she's done, but as it is she doesn't even admit it was anything bad, so he isn't holding his breath. He promised himself that he would see her imprisoned or off-world after the war instead of dead, and he kept that promise: she's currently living at Dr. Cuddy's.
URSA [AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER]
Mommy. <3 Zuko was separated from her at a young age, and with the later exclusion of Iroh, he was left to a host of demeaning and belittling influences. Without Ursa there to tell him he was cared for, Zuko started believing that the only way to be loved was to be perfect. But he was far from perfect - that was Azula. He repeated to himself, over and over again, that as long as he kept trying, one day he would succeed, because that's what his mother had told him. Her influence on him was profound.
Seeing her again on the community was an unspeakable gift for him. He always meant to try to track her down later, but the whole time she was gone, the confusion was like an ache. The fact that she's proud of him and thinks he should be Fire Lord has gone a long, long way to giving him his self-confidence back.
CARES ABOUT OPENLY
KATARA [AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER]
Zuko is extremely appreciative of how difficult it was for Katara to forgive him. They're alike in a lot of ways, and he certainly hasn't forgiven himself - so the fact that she has, and that she believes in him now and trusts him with her friends and family, is an enormous source of encouragement for him. They have an inexplicit, tacit understanding between them regarding a lot of things, and he actually appreciates her mothering most of the time.
AANG [AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER]
Aang was a symbol of his failure for many years, though the face Zuko imagined turned out to be nothing like how he really was. The overtures of friendship he made, even as they were enemies, repulsed him - no one had ever said something like that to him before, and the fact that he couldn't accept made it torturous.
When Zuko slowly began to see that he was wrong and changed sides, he began to get to know Aang for Aang, and not just for the Avatar. He was still largely aggravating in a lot of ways - flying during their fights would always be a source of great frustration - but, after two years of traveling with him, Zuko has grown to grudgingly admit that he sees him as a friend. He can always trust Aang's moral compass to be, if not exactly something he can agree with, pointed in the right direction. It's something Zuko can't say of himself.
Behind everything else, there's a quiet note of guilt, much more for what his people did to Aang's than for his own past mistakes. He knows how much it must haunt him, even if it's something he wasn't alive to change. But also, as Iroh once said, the Avatar gives Zuko hope: whether as someone he needed to capture, or as someone that would repair the world. He's found himself with someone he could believe in again, no matter how much he could never vocalize it.
LILITH SAHL [TRINITY BLOOD]
She's something of a motherly influence on him, or if not explicitly maternal, at least familial. He's been lacking so much of that presence in his life - that support and validation - and from a quiet, serene source, that it gets to him right away, especially during this time when he doesn't have his uncle and from someone in a similar situation. He's very protective of her: Zuko latched on quickly, and he's mature enough now to be able to admit that. He values Lilith's approval greatly.
Even so, he's hesitant to accept any kind of that support, for a variety of (largely conditioned) reasons. Essentially, she touches on a lot of things that have been very lacking in his life, and he's uncomfortable thinking too directly about it. At first he was accordingly unwilling to own up to how important she is to him, but after she told him what was going on with her family, it was impossible for him to be ashamed. He thinks she's an extraordinarily good person, and although he can't be as forgiving as her, she's influenced him already to be more accepting.
Their relationship is over time starting to even out: Zuko's caught on to her martyr complex a little, and is more assertive in response.
FRIENDLY WITH
MELLO [DEATH NOTE]KAITO [DETECTIVE CONAN / MAGIC KAITO]
Zuko really does find Mello somewhat disconcerting. He definitely gets 'morally shady / untrustworthy' vibes from him, but on the other hand, half of his family is sociopathic, so he tries not to judge. In some ways it's actually reassuring to him that someone like Mello could approve of his actions and find him worthwhile, since he's a lot more used to that kind of person than anyone straightforwardly kind.
Zuko is usually forthright and uncomplicated himself, to the extent that Mello trying to tell him he has to make rational decisions just doesn't click. He does what's right, period. Mello can hopefully influence him to have more forethought: they're alike in a lot of ways, so they definitely connect enough that Zuko would listen to him if he gave advice. They could potentially grow pretty close.
Kaito was the first person to explain DDD to Zuko, and that trend was followed when he visited him in Japan and explained computers to him as well. It was a simple act, but for Zuko, kindness like that has been rare, so while he doesn't say anything overt on it, he does count Kaito as a friendly source. Not to mention that he hates Azula and wanted Zuko to win.
He was also visited by Kid once and had something important to him stolen and subsequently returned, and while Zuko hasn't made the connection to Kaito yet, it's only a matter of time given what he knows.
SUZE SIMON [THE MEDIATOR]LUNA LOVEGOOD [HARRY POTTER]
He really does think she's a weird girl, largely for, like he told her, being so calm all the time. A part of that is that she doesn't have the enormous heaps of personal obligation and responsibility he has, and it just bewilders Zuko to find people that aren't mired in interpersonal conflict.
But once he got past that and actually talked to her, he surprisingly found himself kind of liking her. She's so level-headed it's a good influence on him. And, yeah, he flirts with her, but he has no idea that's what he's doing.
Luna is an odd girl by all accounts. Zuko definitely thinks so. But the more he talks to her, the more he's started to see her as gentle, compassionate girl, and that undercurrent has made him somewhat protective of her. That said, she does throw him through a loop, and he won't admit it, but he's growing to like the strange and unexpected things she says.
ALBERICH [HERALDS OF VALDEMAR]EDWARD ELRIC [FULL METAL ALCHEMIST]
Zuko initially found Alberich highly suspicious for how unforthcoming he is, but a recent conversation has him identifying with him to a huge extent. He's from a fire-based country that started a war, but has since left and is working with the other side to stop it. Zuko can't help but root for him and want to help.
He's started to get used to his curt nature and not take it personally, which also helps. Their conversations are still a little stilted because Zuko is awful at carrying conversations more or less on his own.
The term "shounen rival" is pretty applicable here. They didn't initially quite get along since they're both so reactive, but there's an element of understanding beneath everything that stopped Zuko from outright disliking him even then.
They've talked a lot more now, and while Zuko still finds Ed (and especially his world) enormously confusing and somewhat insufferable, once they calm down they tend to agree on most things. Ed's science-based mind goes completely over his head, but they're turning into fast friends anyway.
MEGARA [HERCULES]
Teasing doesn't usually get to Zuko, but for some reason Meg's does. A lot. Right from the start she made him blush and fail. Aside from that, they have a similar flair for sarcasm that always gives their conversations a lot of verve.
She's asked to visit, and since the war's over now, Zuko's acquisced.
ACQUAINTANCE
ARTHUR PENDRAGON [MERLIN]MATT [DEATH NOTE]
Despite finding him somewhat impossible to talk to, Zuko is a little forgiving of that already. Arthur's older than him, but that doesn't stop him from being reminded of himself three years ago: arrogant, wanting his father's approval, and nonetheless well-intentioned.
He's good practice for being appropriately formal at court, at the very least.
Matt's relationship with Zuko is basically that Matt is a troll, but then he went and was sympathetic out of nowhere, so Zuko doesn't know what to make of him overall. It doesn't help that 90% of what he says goes over his head in some way. According to him, they are "bros".
ELIZABETA HÉDERVÁRY [AXIS POWERS HETALIA]MORRIGAN [DRAGON AGE: ORIGINS]
He met her initially as a friend of his mom's, which automatically granted her some leeway on his tsundere, but since then she's proven herself to be a lot more reasonable and polite than most of the people he knows. Zuko's not really sure how to talk to her, but is tentatively approving. Oh, and he has no idea she's a country yet.
Skeptical and cynical, Morrigan instantly reminded Zuko of Mai, and so far that impression has stayed (if without the romantic intention). They've talked a few times and largely got along, as much as two emotionally distant people can.
Recently he's extended some tentative feelers of more overt approval, and been tentatively approved of in return. God only knows how long it will take them to get close to being friends.
SORA [KINGDOM HEARTS]RIKU [KINGDOM HEARTS]
Keeps trying to be his friend. Zuko does not want. Also thinks his world sounds like a fairy tale, ironically enough.
All that aside, Sora reminds him of Aang. Their relationship will probably go a similar course. lol
The annoying not-friend's Sora's friend. So far they're a little too alike to have any revealing conversations, but I'd be surprised if they didn't eventually relate.
TEMPERANCE BRENNAN [BONES]LARSA FERRINAS SOLIDOR [FINAL FANTASY XII]
Is admittedly weird, but almost as soon as she came to DDD she earned Azula's ire, so Zuko immediately felt for her.
She's also examined what turned out to be the fake corpses of Mai and Ty Lee, so Zuko feels some gratitude there, though he won't admit it. He respects her work (although if it is mildly creepy).
They have quite a few similarities between them, but aside from those they're completely different. They have interesting conversations since they don't see exactly eye-to-eye, but on the matter of ruling their countries, they agree completely (even though Zuko doesn't entirely know that yet). Could potentially end up friends if Zuko ever calms down enough to listen to him.
Larsa also has a thing going on with Azula that Zuko frankly isn't sure he wants to know about, but he figures that if someone as seemingly rational-minded as Larsa can put up with her, he might be a good influence on her in the long run.
LISA CUDDY [HOUSE]CATERINA SFORZA [TRINITY BLOOD]
He hasn't talked to her much, but he found her reasonable when he did, which makes him especially shocked that she's Azula's mom-thing. He's honestly glad that his sister has found some kind of parental validation after their dad and all, but it still weirds him out.
Cuddy's against the war, though, so that alone scores her major points.
Frankly finds her kind of intimidating, but she seems both fixated on bringing Cain under control and capable of doing it, so Zuko has a lot of respect for her thus far.
SUSPICIOUS OF
TIRA [SOUL CALIBER]RUSSIA [AXIS POWERS HETALIA]
Tried to lure him into using Soul Edge while he thought Mai and Ty Lee were dead, but Zuko, used to Azula, saw through it and became incredibly suspicious. However much Tira tries, he doesn't trust her.
Kind of bonded with him by sheer virtue of disliking America, but Zuko finds his cheerfulness bizarre. The fact that he admits to being deceitful makes him wary of what he says, too. Overall, though, he simply doesn't care that much: they're countries. That alone freaks him out.
DISLIKES
AMERICA [AXIS POWERS HETALIA]
Zuko has no real basis for disliking America, he just finds him trivial and annoying. He's not communist, and he doesn't care what that means.
I only included people we have in the game. If you think you should be on here, let me know! /o/
