So...what does a Fire Lord do exactly? We don't have any on my world.

I know; it's unique to my world. The Fire Lord is the undisputed and sole ruler of the Fire Nation. If you meet my sister, she'll introduce herself that way, too. Fire Nation, Earth Kingdom, Water Tribes, Air Nomads. There's four: four elements, four nations.

Does that make up the whole world? Or are they, like, just the most important and there are places inbetween?

No, that's the whole world. There aren't even really any Air Nomads left, just one persaon. So there's three nations, functionally.

It seems weird to me that Earth has so many.
