Enfolding Darkness, Part One (emo enough for ya?)

I may be in love with Sandra Bullock.

Well... Not 'in love with' exactly, as she has no idea who I am... And not Sandra Bullock, exactly, as it's really more about the characters she plays in the movies she plays them in.

But, still. The basic upshot is, I'd watch an insurance commercial if it had Sandra Bullock in it. And, I'd probably cry.

I watched "The Proposal" today. While I hate to say this about any decent movie, it's probably not going to sweep the Oscars or anything, but it was very enjoyable, and I did laugh out loud, a lot, and it did have me wondering for a while... Which, I guess, is kind of rare, when I think about it.

You go into a movie like this on contract. You know what's going to happen, and that's what you're there for. The quirky, unlikely couple who are thrown into an unlikely situation will rail at it, rail at each other, discover each other's better sides, and fall in love. Not "Well, sure, I suppose..." love, either... Dropping everything, running across town, mad dash to catch your One True Love before they get on that train/plane/ship and leave forever, and declaring your true and passionate and undying love forever love.

And, for a while in this one, I actually thought there might be a breach of contract. I mean... C'mon. It's Sandra Bullock. Of -course- you're going to get the happy ending, right? But, still, for a while, I thought it might be a "Girl learns a valuable lesson and everybody's still basically happy, if a bit bittersweet." ending.

It was kind of a double whammy, actually, since I took an opportunity to watch "Two Weeks Notice" two nights ago, too. And, the preview before "The Proposal"? Another Sandra Bullock romantic comedy coming soon. They should just have people selling tickets for the next one right there in the auditorium... I would have bought one.

One thing about romantic comedies when you haven't got anyone to share them with, though... Sure, they feel wonderful, in the moment... But then this amazing, dark, bottomless depression comes along, too.

I think I've -almost- accepted the idea that I'll never -really- be loved like that again. I feel like I'm old enough I should be able to accept it gracefully, enjoy some nice memories, and get on with the last half of my life, playing the cards I was dealt / or the outcome of the cards as I played them (I see merit in both analogies), and I do manage to hold that attitude for a while, when I think of it... But, really, I just don't think I'm -quite- ready to do it with total grace.

It's a cold and empty feeling, when you come right down to it. It'll take some getting used to.

love, movies
