Design Fundamentals Winter 2014 Final Projects

Jun 04, 2014 12:02

Students select a personal challenge to address in their final in Design Fundamentals.

This pair of students asked to work as a team. They had individual tasks on the team and together created a card-based game that actually got Kickstarter funding.  Yay!

Erika applied her interest in Graffiti to her program in Graphic Design.

Savvy designed a home using her design fundamentals challenges.

Ali in game design created a character.

Lerma used Unity to create a character in a fun bouncy physics environment.

Olivia wanted to paint and she did express her design challenges of Texture and Color!!!

Jimmy in our Game Design program created two aspects of the same character.

Chris loves to draw so he made his own dragon responding to his challenges of positive and negative space and color.

Josh didn't know how to create digital paintings until he challenged himself to create this image in answer to his design challenge of Space (depth) and Texture.  Look at that atmospheric perspective!

Teaching Reflection
I have a lottery system by which each student "draws" two elements and one principle of design to achieve in their final project.  the project must relate to their major, and thus, their future career.

Overall. giving students a specific Design Fundamental Challenge focuses their approach to the final project and ensures that students target a key principle and element to achieve in a composition.  This achievement promotes pride in their work as you can see in these photos and engages them in refining or developing new skills in the process.
