Honoria's grandmother and grandfather were slaves of African descent. Her mother Charity was born after slavery was abolished, but she could only find work as a servant. Honoria was born when Charity was around 35, and the birth was difficult.

Charity was a live-in maid to a rich family who lived not far from London. There was never any abuse or mistreatment of Honoria or her mother. Honoria did grow up with the children of the family, but she never really forgot her place, and so it's not really correct to call them friends. Her childhood was lonely, but her mother was her center of her world. Honoria was always underfoot, learning what Charity did, but she also talked to the other people of the house. Honoria never had formal schooling. Instead she learned how to do sums from the woman who bought groceries and damage control from the other maid, among other things.

Honoria's mother died when Honoria was 18. Before she passed, she told Honoria who her father was. Charity herself did not regret the situation, as it resulted in Honoria, but the revelation filled Honoria with shame and revulsion. After Charity passed away, Honoria searched for her father while working as a maid throughout the area. It took almost two years, but Honoria finally discovered that the man was in Fallen London. She came to the 'Neath to find him and kill him.

Honoria misses her mother. She misses sunlight, and the birds singing. She misses how simple her life was before her mother died, though she does appreciate the freedoms that she has discovered since coming to the Neath.
