Taking a fic for a test drive--

If I could get some opinions on the following, I'd be very grateful. This fic is set about five years after "Chosen"/"Home" and is a BtVS/AtS crossover. I'm not even going to attempt to match it up with the upcoming season of AtS, so don't worry about spoilers--this is all my speculation about what the Jossverse might look like in five years. I think I’ll tentatively creep out of anonymity to praise this first installment.

I quite enjoyed this first taste of your Connor/Dawn fic. There’s a lot of rich territory that can be explored regarding that relationship. Dawn and Connor are two of my favorite characters - so it’s fun to contemplate the many intriguing parallels between the two.

To fly off on a bit of a tangent: part of my affection for Dawn’s character lies in the thought-provoking subtext of her Season Five story. As the Mutant Enemy writers have confirmed within a few interviews, the whole Key storyline was meant as a metaphor for adoption. So whenever I re-watch Season Five, I pick up on more of the subtle nuances of that theme. In my view, Dawn’s storyline was a thoughtful contemplation on the nature of family.

As such, I was quite intrigued with Connor's situation at the end of Angel Season Four. Suddenly he has a family who he thinks of as his birth family. But in actuality, he was never born to them - his true origins are unknown to him. In a way, he’s in a situation that can potentially be mapped onto an adoption metaphor. Which is one of the many rich parallels he has with Dawn. Heh - those kids are totally made for each other.

Anywho - I’ll return from my tangent and get back to the point. Which was me praising you on the first installment of your fic. I love how you’ve already set up parallels between Dawn and Connor. Like the way Cordy acted similarly to the brain-sucked victims of Glory. If that was intentional it was a nice touch =)

A Dawn/Connor relationship lends itself to a lot of intriguing possibilities. Have fun with it!
