So, I'm still alive

Just been busy with school and work. Did I tell everyone I'm finally enrolled and doing prereq work for my MA TESOL? Well, I am. So there. I'm taking Japanese and Intro to Linguistics, which is really quite fascinating. My linguistics prof is adorably enthusiastic about her subject. It's really interesting to be taking a foreign language while also studying linguistics. It's nice to only be taking two classes, because I am still working, and I think I need to ease back into college life. It's fun, though, and I've been making the rounds of the coffee bars in downtown Portland in a quest for the perfect latte. The two best so far: Case Study Cafe near the library, and Public Domain just a block up from Pioneer Square. Both make a nice, rich, smooth latte, but I like the ambience of Case Study better, and they make all their own syrups. Their toasted hazelnut syrup is a work of art.

In fannish news, I read the latest Heroes of Olympus book, The House of Hades, a couple of weeks back and really enjoyed it. The ensemble is pretty big by now, so some characters got the short shrift, but they all had at least a moment to shine. Nico also cemented his status as an official Woobie, the poor dear. Everything is now set for an apocalyptic showdown in Book 5, and I can't wait.

I also can't wait for Thor: The Dark World. Someone posted videos from a press conference here at ONTD. Eccleston speaks! Most of the questions, predictably, are for the Hiddlesworth collective, but in the second part, Eccles gets a couple of questions to himself and is thoroughly charming. And, trust me, you have to work to be seen as charming when you're at the same table as Tom Hiddleston, the life-ruiner.

So, anyway, I am around, I'm just not very active here right now. If you're on FB you'll see me more often because it's easier to just drop a quick line there, but I am keeping an eye out here.
