So, a lot of you have probably been saying, "H! Since you stopped CrossFit, what are you doing for workouts? We're worried! This preoccupies us!"
Okay, so, maybe not. But, just in case anybody does wonder, I've been doing a fitness boot camp at the local rec center. The instructor, Danielle, keeps things really varied and fun, and it's a really good workout. I have the sore muscles to prove it.
Mondays are always step workouts. You know, with the fitness step. She keeps it really simple--no complicated choreography--and does a lot of intervals. We keep light weights (1-5 pounds) in our hands for the workout, and we take breaks to work our upper bodies with heavier weights. At the end, she kills our abs for 5-7 minutes.
Wednesdays and Fridays are varied. This past Wednesday, almost the whole workout was Tabata: 30 seconds on, 10 seconds off. We did cardio (jumping rope, lateral jumps, etc.) and resistance (pushups, lunges, etc.). Then she killed our abs for 5-7 minutes.
Friday, she set up stations. They were: 1) Mats for walk-out pushups (keeping your legs straight, bend over, walk your hands out until you're in a plank position, do a pushup, walk back), 2) steps (varied exercises each round), 3) a big mat (round 1, burpees; round 2, drag yourself forward on your belly using both arms; round 3, backward crab walk), 4) stability balls for ab/hamstring work, and 5) jog around the room. First round was 1 1/2 minutes at each station, second round was one minute, third was 45 seconds. Then we put the stations away and did work with heavy weights for our upper bodies. And, afterward, she killed our abs for 5-7 minutes.
She's very big on the killing of abs, Danielle.
I also go in Tuesdays and Thursdays to work out on my own and take a swim. I'm a lousy swimmer, but it's exercise, and it's relaxing.
