I like to think I'm pretty tolerant when it comes to SF in general and DW in particular. Plot holes? I can work around them if the episode is entertaining enough. Bad science? I'm no scientist myself. An improbability factor so high it should summon the Heart of Gold? Whatevs, we're none of us perfect.
Occasionally, though, the show throws such a
Wall Banger at you that it becomes unforgivable. To wit:
Where the freaking hell is the TARDIS's AED unit?!? You're telling me the TARDIS is the most advanced ship in the universe with every possible amenity for its human passengers, but basic life-saving equipment is totally absent? And that CPR performed by someone who doesn't know what she's doing is the best option in case of drowning, suffocation or cardiac arrest?
Hand over your license, Doctor; you didn't do your homework.
Were it not for that bit of imbecility, the episode would be passable as entertaining fluff. Pirates, sirens, mysterious curses, colliding realities, alien bogeys--that's what DW is about, right? And, of course, my favorite bit:
"Toby!"
"Rory!"
"My TARDIS!"
Next week: Neil Gaiman episode! I'm all a-squee!
