New legislation regarding hospital visitation rights Totally aside from the gay/lesbian issue, it makes sense, even. If you don't have any family or are cut off from them for geographical or toxicity issues, and you aren't married and don't have any children, what do you do, the way things are now? All it takes is one hospital policy and one petty dictator of an administrator, and you're completely alone. This way, you can designate a good friend who's always been there for you--to be able to be there for you. Frankly, I can't imagine barring someone who's dying from having a loved one present, but it appears there are people in the world who think that's okay. I dunno, world, I dunno.
