Watched the Opening Ceremonies. Loved 'em. Every minute except the ones in which Sarah Brightman was singing. Those Chinese costumes--gorgeous! They really did a fantastic job. Yes, I'm aware of their human-rights record, and also of what these Games are costing the people of China, but see my subject line. Guess I've been suckered. But the Chinese are very proud of their team and of having got the Games, so . . .
Related, I love watching the Parade of Nations, particularly when they wear their traditional clothing. So much nicer than a bunch of blazers and track suits! And definitely nicer than that one nation--was it Belgium?--with the women in the dresses that looked like they'd been hit with red paintballs. Who designed those?
On a more positive note, that little boy who walked with Yao Ming was so adorable, and so heroic, too. He'll never forget this night.
