First three meet-ups:

Oct 31, 2007 11:32

For dark_aegis: After the most recent debacle, the TARDIS appears smack in front of everyone just as Hiro regains consciousness. The Doctor steps out.

"Oh, for Rassilon's sake!" he says, rolling his eyes as he hauls Hiro to his feet. "You, Hiro Nakamura, are a menace. I'm taking you back to 2007, where you are to stay, mark my words. I'll tether you to Ando if I have to."

"But the space-time continuum--" Hiro starts to protest.

The Doctor interrupts him. "--will sort itself out. In the box with you. And you, Kensei!" He rounds on the Englishman. "Aren't you ashamed of yourself for acting like a hero only when you expect a reward? For shame! As for you, Miss Yaeko, you need to stop being so impressed by men with powers. Besides, I happen to be more impressive than either of these yobs. Box, Hiro!"

Hiro, cowed, retreats into the box, but Kensei recovers enough to demand, "And who exactly are you?"

The Doctor gives Kensei his patented Oncoming Storm glare. "I'm the Doctor, last of the Time Lords. Now, run along and be the hero history demands. If you continue to behave stupidly, I will be back--and trust me, you don't want that."

Job done, he re-boards the TARDIS, shuts the door on a bunch of gaping mouths, and takes Hiro back to the present while muttering something about needing to see to "that Petrelli bloke" next.

For tigetkat24: Destruction meets Mickey on an alien world after Madame de Pompadour and before they fall through to the other Earth. Mickey's wandered off on his own, feeling (rightfully) neglected by Rose and the Doctor. The big ginger bloke he runs into while walking and brooding in an alien city seems friendly enough, and Mickey finds himself talking about Rose.

"--an' it's not like I'd ask her to leave him or anything like that," says Mickey.

"Are you sure of that?" asks Ginger, and his voice, not for the first time, reminds Mickey of Brian Blessed. "It seems to me that's what you've wanted since she met him."

"No!" Mickey protests. "I mean, I know what he means to her, and while I can't say I haven't been jealous . . ." He sighs. "Oh, you're right. I wished she'd stayed behind or I'd had the brass to go before, an' now I wish either of 'em would pay half the attention to me they do to each other." Mickey looks down. "'S too late, though, innit? I should just get out of their way."

Ginger sets a huge hand on his shoulder. "The Doctor and I are the same in many ways, Mickey Smith--you can't encounter either of us and remain unscathed. Change came for you the day you met him, and it's coming for you again. Choose your own path; hers is for her alone."

Later, Mickey would never recall the conversation, but change did, indeed, come for him.

For drhaggis: Mal got nabbed on Persephone and woke up in a quiet office.

"Morning, Sleeping Beauty," said the man behind the desk, who was every bit as pretty as Simon. "I've got a deal for you, Captain Malcolm Reynolds."

"I don't deal with just any hun dan yanks me off the street," said Mal, pulling himself upright.

"No, I don't imagine you do. Name's Captain Jack Harkness, by the way." Harkness set down the file he'd been studying, stood, came around his desk and offered a hand to Mal. "I've waited a long time to meet you, Captain Reynolds."

Mal shook the hand warily. "Why? 'Cause I'm just so pretty?"

Harkness laughed. "No, although you are. Like I said: I've got a deal for you. I think you'll be interested."

The office, Mal noted, was very nice, very high-tech. "First of all, you're gonna tell me who you are."

"Torchwood," said Harkness. "Mention that one to River Tam; I'd be interested in what her brain spits out."

"If'n the deal's concerning her, I ain't buying. Or selling. She's crew."

"It is about her, in part. I can keep the Alliance off your back. In fact, I have been for some time." Harkness sat down opposite Mal and leaned back, lacing his hands behind his head. "You're not that good at keeping under the Alliance's radar, Reynolds. Some of your people? Even worse. Did you really think that debacle with Jayne Cobb and the siblings Tam on Ariel went unnoticed? If the Alliance had identified him--and with his rap sheet, that was pretty much a given--they'd have traced him straight back to you. And yet even with him on record asking after the reward, even with all the footage from the hospital, no one ever did. It took one of their top operatives to figure out where River was. Imagine that."

"And you did that why? Out of the goodness of your heart?" asked Mal.

"No. And my professional interest in her was fulfilled the moment Miranda came to light. But it would be a simple thing for me to keep throwing up roadblocks between you and the Alliance." He let that sink in a moment before going on. "I need a transport ship that knows the Rim on retainer. Preferably one with a captain who doesn't mind the odd bit of theft and smuggling. You'd be paid well for the little jaunts I send you on, and in between, you can go about your merry way knowing somebody's picking up after you. Now, how's that sound?"

"I'll have to run it by my crew," said Mal. It was only half a delaying tactic. "Just tell me something: why me? Is it 'cause you've got something on me?"

"Partially," Harkness admitted. "But aside from that--I like you, Reynolds. Been keeping an eye on you for some time, and I think we understand each other. You cross me, you're a dead man. I cross you, I have no illusions you'll go down quietly, and I have as much at stake as you do." He pressed a button on the desk, and in a few moments, a tall woman with thick, dark hair entered. "Escort Captain Reynolds back to his ship, Keely. Captain, think about my offer. I'll be in touch."

Before he got back to Serenity, Mal decided to take the offer.
