Fat lot of good it does me. No friggin' WB in Alaska. Fortunately, I do have a source for tapes, but I don't get to enjoy the season the way others do. I've given up on not being spoiled, btw, so don't worry

Connor began mysteriously. During Season 2, Angel and Darla had sex. Through bizarre mystical means, this caused Darla to become pregnant, even though vampires aren't supposed to be able to do that. It's later revealed that Jasmine (a powerful being with dreams of world domination) caused this pregancy to be possible. As Darla reached labor, Connor's soul began to affect her: she could feel remorse and love again. So, in order to allow her child to be born, she staked herself, leaving only Connor and a pile of ashes behind.
Angel spent a while raising Connor, but it was not to last. Daniel Holtz, a vampire hunter with a grudge against Angel, kidnapped Connor and jumped through a portal into a hell dimension with him. Angel believed Connor dead, until he and Holtz returned to earth a few weeks later, Connor now a teenager and Holtz grown decrepit. Holtz had raised Connor in the harsh hell dimension, teaching him to hate Angel. At first, Connor only wants to kill Angel, but begins to develop sympathy for his biological father. That's ruined when Holtz kills himself and makes it look like Angel did it. In retribution, Connor decides to sink Angel to the murky depths.
When Angel finally emerges, he kicks Connor out of the Hyperion (where he had been staying with a blissfully unaware Fred and Gunn). Connor stays at the fringes of Angel's life for a while, until Cordelia returns to earth from a higher dimension with her memory erased, and Connor is the only one she trusts. Even when she does get her memories back, she still stays with Connor for a bit and they sleep together. This leads to Cordelia being pregant with Jasmine, the mystical being I mentioned, who used Cordelia and Connor as the means of creating her earthly manifestation.
When Jasmine is born, she leaves Cordelia in a coma and puts almost everyone else under mind control (it actually doesn't affect Connor, but he is so enraptured with her that he follows anyway). Eventually he comes to realize that Jasmine was just another lie, though, another person who had used and decieved him. This leads him to a complete emotional shutdown, from which he kills Jasmine and tries to kill all those people at the mall.
You caught Connor at two of his worst moments: believing that Angel killed his surrogate father, and having gone through such a completely traumatic experience that he went over the edge.
However, most of this no longer applies, as Angel did some mojo to totally rewrite Connor's memories. He doesn't remember anything about Angel, Holtz, the hell dimension, Jasmine, or Cordelia. So any meeting between Dawn and Connor post Season 4 has to take this into account.

Thanks a lot for clearing that up! However, there's still the little matter of DARLA DYING IN SEASON 1!! Angel staked her just as she was about to blow the Slayer's brains out! Now I'm REALLY messed up... Help me out again here and I'll spare you and your loved ones when I conquer the world. Signed, Megalomaniac2.

Darla was resurrected by evil law firm W&H for the expressed purpose of messing with Angel. Which she did. Their scheme was so perfidious, though, that they didn't even settle for her giving him intense flashbacks to the Old Days via a magical drug. See, they brought her back human, with a soul. Angel did his level best to save that soul, and he nearly succeeded--but the moment she seemed to understand what humanity was, W&H brought in Drusilla and forcibly re-vamped her while Angel was forced to watch. Messed Angel up good and proper. Later, he shut a bunch of W&H lawyers up in a room with Darla and Dru, and needless to say, it did not all go well with said lawyers.

Also, just thought I'd mention that Angel had sex with post-vamping Darla because he wanted to lose his soul, having come to believe that nothing could possibly redeem him. However, he didn't become Angelus because sex with Darla was done out of despair and self-hatred. As such, he didn't truly achieve perfect happiness, and so went on to eventually get his act together.

Thanks a lot. Not only shall all who answered my questions be spared, but you're also up for Lieutenant positions! A final favor/command: if ANYONE out there has a spare account code they can give me, I want it. Badly. NOW. Thanks again, Megalomaniac2.
