Once again, I’m posting a rare recommendation. If you enjoy fabulous and gritty historical fiction, three-edged humour, and the English language written the way it ought to be, drop by oqidaun’s stories for a rousing good time. Here are the links, as well as the author’s descriptions of the stories.

The Pirate’s Gospel WIP
How an unlikely hero lost a leg, found a king and saved the day with a copy of Principia Mathematica in his breast pocket. It's a shameless Hector Barbossa backstory fanfic told via a vainglorious saunter into historical fiction. Things you'll not find anywhere else: piratey takes on Newton's apple analogy and 3rd law of motion, painstaking historical detail to places in London and Bristol, medically sound clinical guidelines for 18th century amputations, maritime insurance underwriting, Edward Lloyd's coffee house, OCs that have been sprung from their graves, dusted off and set loose, a sweet daughter named Charlotte who can't be Mary Sue when she looks that much like her Daddy, Amsterdam and Tia Dalma flashbacks, Mr. Noodle! gratuitous violence, South Sea Bubble scandals, a naked Sir Robert Walpole (yes NAKED!), Mr. Gibbs kidnapped by cross-dressers and a handful of poignant Sephardic proverbs. The OC cast includes an impatient financier, a foppish French assassin, an oblivious Fellow of the Royal Society, Barbossa's old partners in crime, disgraceful members of the Admiralty, surly butlers and a whole herd of people with Portuguese last names and Dutch connections.

The Barrister’s Son
In March 1697 Nicholas Teague faced off with Edward Teach in the middle of King Street and the encounter changed the course of his life. A glimpse into the adolescent years of Bristol's most famous generation of pirates.

The Dualist
At the corner of Bristol's King and Queen Charlotte Streets in January 1698 a young Hector Barbossa donned his "dueling hat" and set out to defend his sister's honor. Part of a series of back stories featuring Barbossa, Teague, Pintel, et al.
