How do you get here so fast?! Thank you so much. Courtesy of Academic Committee meeting today. As usual, I was the only one having any fun!

Wow, he looks great as an icon, too. I love the way his wig looks. Actually he's quite neatly put together, sartorially speaking. And I like that you've put a happy expression on him. (Maybe he finally succeeded in getting a little revenge on Jack! :D )

I'm getting quite the collection of character portrait icons now. (And thanks to you, I have space for them!) Cotton and Parrot are next and then I want to do some more Anamaria. I do think that this must be Gillette in the next movie. He'll have Port Royal to himself with no Jack and no Elizabeth.

Thank you! I'm glad you like him. Yes, he does look like he might be up to some mischief, doesn't he?

That's a great picture! I'm especially impressed with the hat. Those hats are always so hard to get three demensional, especially when you fill them in all black like you did. Gillette annoys the HECK out of me with his little eyebrow waving, but you've made him look nice ;)

Thank you! I'm so happy that the hat turned out, since the screencap I was using for the uniform reference did not show the top half of his hat. I had to use a whole plethora of other hat pictures, none of which was at the right angle. Since the angle of those brims puts them so much in shade, there is seldom any detail for shading, so they do become very black. The trick is in the shape of that gold brim :D Dear Gillette did have his moments in PotC, but he does have a charming smile when he's not locking people up.

Thank you. Isn't he a happy sight? I did enjoy drawing this, and I'm delighted that the keeper of Andrew's journals likes it!

Oh, that's lovely! Yes, you've definitely caught some of his look of wicked humour, but without the malice this time. I love the way he's all lopsided (as I know from icon-making he almost always is) - and I love all that shiny braid. It is just gorgeous and sends me away with a smile, I must put it in memories to revisit when I need cheering up. Thank you!

I'm delighted that Gillette's greatest fan is pleased with my attempt to render his portrait here. I used several pictures to make this one. For one thing, the PotC ones are so rarely easy to see the detail in. Often it's dark or low light or shadowed and his features are so subtle that it's hard to draw him. So I had some other pictures of Damian that helped with more detail. Every face is actually lopsided :) although he has such very different eyes and that quirky smile. But if you took a picture of the most even and symmetrical-seeming face, cut it in half and used a mirror to make the face again with two left sides or two right sides, it would be nearly unrecognizable. Weird. And yes, there is shiny braid to feed your addiction :D I'm honoured that you liked this enough to "memory" it. I had fun drawing it. My mother, who doesn't know anything about PotC, having only seen it on DVD once, said she thought he had a very pleasant face. And she's right. This is just such a fun, cheerful smile.

*g* I'm not sure if I'm his greatest fan - that honour might go to dauntless_2005. She was the one who persuaded me that he was handsome by providing lots of pictures of Damian without the wig. Previously I was all 'well, Gillette's such a great character, but James is the looker of the pair.' The wig and cravat combination is deadly on him - not to mention that in the film we never see him in a situation when he's relaxed and at ease - but I think your mum's right. Without them he has a very pleasant face - not in the same league as Jack and Will, of course, but then who is? :)

I'm glad you had fun drawing him - I think that comes through. At least, it's delightful how relaxed and happy he looks. Clearly caught in a mermaid-free moment :)
