The Krotons Zoe!

Hey Gang,

I thought I would share the new costume my girlfriend Teri will be wearing at Gallifrey One. She liked Zoe in the spangly Mind Robber Catsuit so we looked at variants and after some deciding settle don her skirt and jacket look from the Krotons.

More Pics and Info

We started work on this for Gally '13 but we weren't able to make the deadline so we put the remainder on hold until this year. Back then she managed to source a good base red t shirt at Macy's, matching red cotton fabric to make a large neck scarf and the base fabrics for the skirts/jacket and scalloped trim. That hunt alone was tiring- most vinyls you find are thick for couches but at least they had the right colors! We lucked out in the Fabric district in LA and found a black and bright red/orange thin very wearable PVC fabric that had the right sheen.

When we came back to this I took the fabric to my seamstress and we used a vintage simple a-line skirt pattern and jacket for the based, did some test mock ups, ran through some minor adjustments and we were good to go. The jacket and skirt we didn't have lined so it makes a bit of noise when she's moving around- likely similar to the original and must have made the BBC soundman furious. The orange scallops needed tissue backing to give them a little more firmness stability to apply onto the jacket and skirt but it worked well. The scallop belt is permanantly sewn onto the top of the skirt to prevent any shifting.

The wig we'd reuse form the Mind Robber though Teri played around with trying to poof up the hair more unsuccessfully. Technically a new shorter and higher wig may be in order in the future to dial it in that extra 10% but it'll do for now.

Other than that it was just time to look at the boots and the watch. For the former we were just going to repurpose her Star Trek boots but seeing as they were patent leather, lace-ups with a 1-2 inch heel we sought out something closer. Most options are basically stripper boots- that have the look but crazy high platform heels, or great heel but missing the lace ups or the patent leather. Finally Teri found some costume boots there were mostly there save again for a somewhat high heel. But the read was good- fit the budget and we were set.

The watch is a 60's funky looking thing. Silver rectangular face on a wide brown or black leather back with rivets or metal sruds and a large buckle. After some hunting around we found a few fairly close looking options on etsy. We chose the best one and again- while not exact it is very close to the read and not a bad deal for $35.00.

Put it all together with the now finished neck scarf and you have 60's Troughton Companion Awesomeness! Wendy Padbury eat your heart out!

Look for this at Gallifrey One!
