My Thirteenth book for  ljbookbingo is Space Team: Screwing up the Galaxy so you don't have to! by Barry Hutchison for the Script/Screenplay (wildcard) square found here.

When small-time conman, Cal Carver, finds himself imprisoned and forced to share a cell with a semi-naked cannibalistic serial killer, he's pretty sure his day can't get any worse. He is wrong. It isn't until two-thirds of the human race is wiped out and Cal is mistakenly abducted by aliens that things really start to go downhill.

Whisked across the galaxy, Cal is thrown into a team of some of the sector's most notorious villains and scumbags and tasked with delivering a package to a warlord-run solar system where the authorities dare not venture. The mission should be simple enough, but as one screw-up leads to another the ragtag group of unwitting heroes find themselves in a frantic battle to save an entire alien civilization - and its god - from total annihilation. Featuring epic space battles, unforgettable characters, and a shapeshifting blob with the face of Tobey Maguire, Space Team is the first book in the internationally bestselling series by award-winning author, Barry J. Hutchison, and is perfect for fans of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Galaxy Quest, Guardians of the Galaxy, and pretty much anything else with the word 'Galaxy' in the title.*

*Except maybe Samsung's Galaxy S series, which is a range of mobile phones, and so not really all that similar. ~Amazon book description

I am actually using one of the two wildcards we are allowed to use for this round, in place of the script/screenplay square.  I really wanted to read something lighthearted as some of the books I have been reading lately are a bit on the heavy side or kinda dry, so I had seen this book recommended in the humor section of the kindle store and since it was only .99 cents I thought I would give it a go.  This was a very ridiculous book in the best of ways.  Cal and the rest of the gang really reminded me of Peter and the Guardians of the Galaxy, so if you liked the movies you will like this book.  I happened to love the movie series so I was thoroughly entertained.  I do feel like I should warn those who wish to read this book that one of the plot points is that Cal, who is a petty criminal, is mistaken for a violent cannibal who has killed and eaten a lot of people, so there are some really gross frank discussions of cannibalism, so watch out for those.  This book is the first in the series and at some point I will probably want to continue on when I need another upbeat humorous story.
