Every year, I say it's going to be the Summer of Sommer, and most years, it is. But none more so than this year. By a large margin, this is the greatest summer of my life!
Beautiful weather, a good beach to visit when I feel like it, countless concerts and festivals, a West Coast vacation, a beautiful wedding of close friends, and a new dedication to life have made this summer quite special indeed.
As I write this, I'm getting ready to play some ball with my old roomates at some courts in downtown Toronto, followed by a 311 concert with about ten good friends. Tomorrow, I'm getting to see one of my 3 new baby cousins born this summer, followed by a date with a beautiful girl that I'm very taken with. After seeing Lethal Weapon 2 as a kid, I've been fascinated with South African women, and though Kirsten was raised mostly here, she still has a touch of the accent and was a beach brat as a child to boot, so I'm DEFINITELY going to put my all into this! If I do somehow pull it off, not only will I be in the company of a wonderful girl, but I'll have really over-achieved in terms of what I deserve. That being said, I'm of the mind that once you've over-achieved in something, you've set new standards for yourself. I hope this is the case!
With all the time off I've had lately due to weddings and vacations, I haven't spent enough time with my pup, and apparently he wasn't all that well behaved while I was gone. Since coming home, however, J.D. has turned a corner and has been a wonderful companion once again, so that's a big plus!
To see me these days is to see me as happy as I've ever been, and I can only hope to continue this streak of pure awesomeness though the fall and winter. I'm enjoying life to it's fullest and the NHL season is just around the corner! What more can a man ask for?
Congrats to Rob and Heather on the birth of their first angel named Maddie! I can't wait to see the little beauty next time I come up.
Many thanks to Monte, Danielle, Matt H., his lovely lady Gen, and Pils for their hospitality when I went out West. I had the best vacation EVER and they were a big part of that. Many thanks also to John, Jana and Mark for putting me up in Vancouver. It's always nice to see some good Czech people again!
I have plans to start taking vocal lessons from my favourite singer on the planet, Brian Byrne (formerly of I Mother Earth). How many people can learn from their idols? Not many, and not nearly enough. I'm one of the lucky few! ;)
Jay Appleby, I know you're reading this: Get your ass back to T.O.!
Mom is well, Dad is great, and my family is growing all the time. We did lose Grandma last winter and I think about her all the time, but I know she's looking out for me and I'll never forget her. Once, while in Vancouver, I was trying to check into my flight online, and I realized that I had messed up and wasn't leaving until the following day, thereby giving me an extra day in Vancouver. Coincidence? It was Grandma's birthday that day. Maybe that was her last gift to me, who knows?
I'll check in again in the fall. Hope you're all enjoying yourselves!
Peace to the middle east!
Stef.
