Mango Mania

People tend to equate oranges with summer and sun. I used to myself. But Florida is home now, at least until we can find the escape hatch, and I am starting to count my fruit seasons differently. Strawberries mean winter. Tomatoes mean winter. Blueberries mean early spring. Watermelon means late spring. Oranges are definitely winter---November to April.
So what is the taste of sun in Florida? The taste of summer? One word. One sweet, juicy, slippery word---MANGO. They've become one of my favorite fruits over the last couple years. Can't get enough of them. That might change soon enough.
I recently came into a windfall, literally; a windfall of windfallen mangoes. Paul's company owns a house with a huge (think big old oak tree big) mango tree. And I have permission to grab as many off the ground as I want. Woohoo! On top of that, there's a smaller tree of another variety that I can actually pick. So at the moment there are cheeks from a dozen and a half mangoes hanging out in the food dryer. I'll get some chunks done for the freezer, too. And mango popsicles. And mango chutney. And. And. And...
For now, take a listen. It's adorable and catchy. Might be your next earworm.
