Putting the Summer in Jars

Another canning season is slowly nearing completion. Even though the garden has been far from its best this year, it's been a highly productive year for canning.

I didn't do plain canned tomatoes this year. Either I got a little crazy last year and canned too many, or I just didn't cook much this past year (actually the more plausible of the ( Read more... )

Your cheese-making adventures have me excited. Been considering trying to obtain a herd share for cheese and yogurt purposes.

If you ever need to come to Metro Detroit you've got a place to stay---and I'll stuff you with amazing treats.

Most canning really is not difficult. Mostly it's time consuming. Cooking down 50 lbs of tomatoes into sauce takes a bit.

Yum! Everything sounds so, just Yum! I've never had strawberry blackberry jam before, but sounds really good. And the beer mustard . . I don't know how you find so much time to do this, perhaps I should attempt at committing myself to do it! I played around with canning a few years back and ended up making a few delecibles, but just haven't gotten the inspiration to pick it back up again . .
I believe that you have inspired me ( : I'll be looking up recipes for next season!

I was inspired to make Strawberry Blackberry from Smuckers. Yes, Smuckers. The only problem with that combo is that they aren't in season at the same time, so either on or the other ingredient is frozen (usually the strawberries as their season is first). It's a family favorite, though, so it's worth locking up some freezer space for a while.
Luckily for me my schedule happens to be arranged so that I have the equivalent of 4 days off in a row. I get off Sunday afternoon and don't have to be back at work until Thursday afternoon.

I'm always fascinated by the things that you come up with!

We were in a similar situation with tomatoes. I still have far too many from last year, so I cooked my romas down to sauces.

Also did a ton of jellys, strawberry jam, and pear butter. And I am DONE!

You always have a full plate in front of you. I get tired just reading your exploits.
Hope your British Invasion is proving to be an extraordinarily fun time.
