Catch up time

Aug 29, 2008 09:11

Ugh! This is the weekend that we catch up on all the stuff we've been ignoring, avoiding or even just innocently overlooking since before vacation. The list includes, but is not limited to:
  • Laundry---mountains of it.
  • Cleaning---attempting to leave this to Paul really does not work well.
  • Household item stock up---sublist includes, but is not limited to:
    • cat litter
    • dish washer detergent
    • fabric softener
    • Paul's icky vanilla SF creamer
    • coffee pot soak
    • new toothbrush
    • I know I'm forgetting lots
  • Heavy gardening---tis the season to start pulling it all up. The snap peas have finally given up the ghost and been pulled. Last night Paul pulled the melon vines. I think it's finally time to be done with The Broccoli That Wouldn't Die, too. On the other hand, there's a fresh new crop of blossoms on the beans. I may wait a bit on pulling them. Our late and tiny crop of beets should be ready to harvest this weekend. They should make one or two meals for Paul. I'll attempt to eat an obligatory beet, but I'm not holding my breath on freshness making me a  fan. We didn't manage to get any late season crops in, but we've got a couple packages of spinach seed that we're going to toss into our new open spaces just to see what we can get in a very few short weeks. Baby spinach is always the best, anyway.
  • THE Bills---I don't even want to look.
  • Canning/Preserving---so far I've put down several pounds of beans, a bunch of 2-cup packages of shredded zucchini for baking (we came back from vacation to 5 Monster Zucchini), strawberries, blackberries, wild raspberries and blueberries in the freezer and put up one big batch of salsa. There will be more salsa to can this weekend. Isn't it funny how you "put down" things for the freezer, but the things you can are "put up"? At least that's how we phrase it in my part of the Midwest.
I'd so much rather be going off to see the Ragbirds with a certain Mr. R, though. Due to having a better than 4 hour drive home, we missed them at Farmfest. I did download their newest CD, though. It's very good. I recommend it.

Okay. Off to start accomplishing the list. At least I'll have an extra day to work on it. I've got Monday off, but Paul is oncall so we're still going to be stuck at home.
