Friday Fluff & Fold Report---Official Notice

Apr 24, 2008 11:39

The Friday Fluff & Fold Report is moving. Only it's not moving to a new stationary day. It's just going to keep moving. Period. Thursday this week. Maybe it will be Friday next week. In other words, I will try to crank one out as I can make time. So let's not waste any of that precious time. To the bullets!
  • Paul and I are now the proud stewards of WB Community Garden Plot #6. We haven't seen the actual plot yet, but the diagram shows a promising layout. Our plot is an end plot in a single row of six plots, across the lane from the water spiggots from the rest of the plots. Good access on three sides, and little to no chance of people tramping through or dragging hoses across our plot. This plot was lovingly tended by the same gardener for years, but Parks & Rec didn't hear from him this year. I certainly hope the former gardener is okay, but I'm glad to get the plot. There sure weren't many open ones. Now to wait for the garden meeting.
  • In the mean time, I'm freaking. We've got the plot. Now what to put in it? The fact is, aside from tomatoes and basil, we are garden rank beginners. I still don't know exactly how big the plot is. They're supposed to be approximately 450 sq ft. That gives plenty of room for trying lots of things. I just don't know what. Aside from tomatoes and basil, which are givens, does anybody have any good ideas for beginning gardeners in search of success and yummy things to grow and eat?
  • It's been more than two years since my last period, making me officially post menopausal for more than a year now. Then yesterday---traces of pink when I wipe. This morning, too, and joined by period's bosom buddy (for me, anyway) diarrhea. I'm not overly concerned, but there is the slightest twinge of worry there. I imagine it's probably not out of the question to pop an egg occasionally in the first few post-meopausal years. It's not like an off switch gets flipped. I do wish I hadn't forgotten to make my July GYN appointment in March. I probably won't be able to get an appointment until almost autumn now. Popular gynecologist.
  • I wish there was a switch. I'd flip it back on. I don't like what comes after. Your hair thins. Your skin thins. Your vaginal mucosa thins. Everything thins except your waist. That thickens. And you dry up. You don't save any money by not having to buy "feminine hygiene products" anymore, because you spend that money on heavy duty moisturizers and lube instead. Really. I should just buy stock in KY.  That's probably the thing that bothers me the most. I like sex. No. I love sex. It feels like my body is a traitor when it won't respond to the arousal cues from my brain---or responds slugglishly. I feel like an old car that has to warm up for twenty minutes before it's able to chug down the street. And heaven forbid you forget to check the oil. It's almost a guarantee that it's still going to need oil, regardless of how well you've warmed it up.
  • I never did let you all know that I posted some new pictures from our Frankenmuth runaway. You'll find them here. We had a great time, as usual. The remodeled bathrooms in the whirlpool suites are gorgeous with stone and granite. Not only do they finally have showers big enough to turn around in, the new glass encased showers feature those side jets you see in fancy bathroom ads. And the new tubs feature "color therapy". Ooo. Ahhh. We had some great food, too. The walleye from Oma's at the lodge was some of the best fish I've ever eaten. And the beer....
  • We caved in to pressure from a friend, and finally tried a beer sampler over at Sullivan's Black Forest. It's a very generous sampler for $12, and featured the 11 house brews plus the current "guest tap" which was Lindeman's Framboise. Raspberry beer. Who would have thought. We viewed that last glass in the sampler with a great deal of trepidaton before we finally gathered up our courage, and tasted it. OMGs! It's amazing! We have a new favorite.
  • Speaking of food, I just have to note it here so I don't forget. I made da-bomb, absolute bestest, well-turkey-would-be-good-for-you-if-you-didn't-do-that-to-it burgers. I started with a package of ground turkey breast. To that I added 2 huge green onions, sliced, half a red bell pepper, brunoise (who's an Alton Brown junkie?), half a can of water chestnuts, finely chopped, 1/4 cup of terriyaki sauce and a shot of EV olive oil (because turkey breast is really dry). Divided into four patties, grilled them, added slices of sharp cheddar, two slices of pineapple and two slices of bacon, topped with a bit more terriyaki and served on "sandwich" croissants.  Paul gushed, and ate two of the huge things. You should have seen his food blister. It was tight as a drum. There might be a fight about who gets the last one.
  • Well, I've gone and hurt Rudy's feelings again. Not on purpose. The internet is still a bit new to him, my LJ, which it turns out he's been reading,  even newer. I don't think he read down to the part of my recent post about houseguests where I reminded all not to put too much stock in what I was writing, that I was just venting. Anyway, he left me a voice mail yesterday apologizing for being "less than considerate". I appreciate that. His voice had that whipped puppy sound that just rips my heart out, though. That voice is not a pretense. That voice is the reminder that he isn't the hard-ass he shows the world most of the time, that he can be hurt. I've been responsible for that voice more than once over the years. I hate it when I do that.

Well, the laundry beckons, and Paul is on his way home for lunch. Have a good day, y'all.
