‘Center yourself. Be calm and every thing will fallow. Think stupid thoughts about peace and tranquility and your life will get better… “Meditation sucks!” I don’t care what sensei used to say. Meditation just makes me fee like a fool.
Kakashi gingerly rose to his feet and stretched his tight muscles. A resounding pop released the pressure in his lower back.
Kakashi wearily dropped himself into the nearest chair with his favorite book in hand. An hour later, the lazy ninja was still on the same page. In fact, he was still on the same sentence. He had read the same line countless times and still could not have told you its contents.
For the first time in his young life, the child genius and elite ninja, Hitachi Kakashi did not know what to do. He had a problem on his mind and no mater how hard he tried, he couldn’t simply avoid it.
He had tried to compete with Guy. The crazy green wearing fool refused to do any more challenges with him until Kakashi’s mind was on task again and even disqualified the few today where Kakashi had miserably failed.
He tried annoying team seven but seeing as his problem had to do with said team, he got frustrated. He set them up doing a miserable mission, cleaning pigsties, and trudged away home.
He tried eating, napping and pacing, all of which failed to distract him for long.
Kakashi had even resorted to the meditation techniques that his old Sensei had taught him to no avail.
Not even his porn books could capture his interest! He was going to go mad if he didn’t figure this out soon.
‘Avoiding the problem just is not going to work,’ he sighed to himself. ‘I have to thin about this logically.’
It all started with Iruka, ironically enough. He had been looking for Naruto to take him off on another mission when he found the boy eating raman with his favorite teacher Iruka. Kakashi loved to spy on his students and that day was no exception.
He listened in to the discussion between the two dear friends. “You are really coming along in our lessons Naruto. I am truly proud of you,” beamed Iruka
‘Lessons?’ thought Kakashi. ‘What lessons?’
“He he, Thanks Sensei! I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out. I only wish that I had come to you sooner.”
‘EH?!’ this was just getting even more confusing for the pore jounin.
“Not at all Naruto. It is my pleasure entirely and I completely understand your reasons for waiting so long. I know that you where never really given a reason to trust any one before and it just makes me so proud to have earned that trust from you.”
Naruto ducked his head to hide a fiery blush and Kakashi had to back away to calm his heart. ‘What is this feeling?’ he pondered as he clutched at his heart. ‘I feel all worm and breathless.’ He thought back on the seen he had witnessed and contemplated his reaction. He pictured the soft look on the teachers face and the blush on the student. His heart constricted wildly again. ‘Is that is? Do I like Iruka?’ he thought. ‘That must be it. I will just have to get Naruto and worry about this after the mission.’ He concluded.
Once Kakashi had collected himself, he burst in on the cozy pair with gusto. “Come on Naruto. We have a mission that can not wait,” he happily declared. “There is a cat that needs our help.”
This brought a long-suffering groan from the pore teen that was being dragged away by the collar. “Isn’t it animal abuse to always bring that cat back to that horrible woman?” He wined.
Kakashi forced himself to stifle the laughter that whished to bubble forth. He secretly agreed but couldn’t admit as mush and so had to remain silent.
The mission carried on a usual. Sakura created a lot of damage with the strength that Tsunade had taught her to wield.
Sasuke silently did as told, hoping against hope that this would be the last punishment D rank mission he would have to suffer though. He had been back for two years now and was anxiously awaiting the end to his long list of punishments that he was made to suffer through with his teammates.
Naruto helped them all to get through this mission in the same way he had helped with all of the previous ones. He cracked jokes and acted stupid every time the tension got thick. ‘Really, Naruto is very good at lifting moral,’ Kakashi had affectionately thought.
At the end of the mission, Naruto had shouted for raman until Sakura had his him over the head and left to fallow the Uchiha.
Kakashi was about to fallow their lead and leave the bubbly blond behind when he caught sight of a strange look upon the teens face. You would expect him to be let down at the rude rejection of his team but this was not the case.
Kakashi glimpsed a satisfied smirk on the perky face before Naruto dashed away in the opposite direction of the roman shop. Curiosity piqued, the Jounin fallowed at a distance.
What he found was a shock to his system. Naruto had run strait to the ninja academy. Kakashi spied on Iruka and Naruto from a well-placed tree with a wooden swing in it outside the teacher’s window. Jealousy flared within Kakashi’s gut as the two hugged each other.
They chatted for a bit before Iruka produced several worn out looking books from under his desk. Kakashi puzzled over this as the pair sat down side by side in two of the many desks in the room.
Kakashi studied them closely and attempted to read their lips. Whatever Naruto was saying, was being stuttered haltingly. Whenever the stutters got really bad, Iruka would jump in with a clear and precise word that Naruto would then repeat.
It was all very strange. ‘It kinda reminds me of a little kid learning to read,’ Kakashi contemplated.
A moment later his eyes grew wide in shock. Naruto is learning how to read. “This solves everything!’
‘Of course he can’t read.’ Kakashi yelled at himself. ‘Who would have taught him? No one, that’s who.’ Naruto had come so far in his seventeen years wit such a handicap the Kakashi was awed by Naruto’s resilience. ‘What a guy.’
Kakashi was about to leave when Iruka wrapped an arm around the blond to congratulate him on a job well don. Kakashi felt his sharingon eye swirl with anger. ‘How dare he touch him so casually?’
…
‘Wait a minuet. How dare he TOUCH him so casually?’ The silver haired genius was taken aback by his own thoughts. ‘Isn’t it Iruka that I like?’ he thought. ‘Iruka is the one touching Naruto. I am jealous over the person doing the touching…. Dose that mean that I like NARUTO?’
Kakashi was so surprised by the direction that his thoughts where taking that he forgot to hold onto the tree branch.
The two people in the classroom rushed to investigate the loud thud that they had heard. All that they found was a small cloud of dust beside Naruto’s favorite swing.
Now, hear it was, a week later and Kakashi was finally forced to think about his revelation.
Kakashi attempted to list Naruto’s bad points. ‘Naruto was clumsy and loud. Naruto was brash and acted without thought more often then not. He was slow to learn and fast to change.’
Without trying, the counter arguments filled his silver head. Naruto had the uncanny ability to look into the hearts of the people that he meets. Naruto acted without thought because he always fallowed his heart. He might learn book stuff slow but now I know that he can’t read, and he learns everything ells at lightning speed. He might be clumsy in life but never in battle. He was only really loud when he had a passion for what he had to say.’
‘Naruto is adorably cute and so full of heart and spirit that he almost glowed with it. Naruto is my student, but I can’t seem to help my desire for him.’ Kakashi hung his head in misery. ‘What am I gonna do/” he thought.
His whirling thoughts where interrupted by a nock on the door. Glad for the distraction, he pounced on the door and whipped it open to reveal the object of his thoughts.
“Hi Kakashi sensei! Happy birthday!” The blond was literally bouncing with excitement.
‘That’s right; today is my birthday Kakashi realized.
“I just wanted to come over and bring you your present.” The teen thrust a sloppily wrapped gift at his teacher with a painstakingly hand written card resting proudly on the top.
Kakashi was incredibly touched and invited the boy into his apartment. They sat on the old sofa and Naruto reminded him to open the gift.
Kakashi pealed back the bright paper to reveal the present inside. Naruto had given him a picture. Not just any picture though. The artist had don an amazing job. In the foreground stood Team seven as they where today. All around them where the other teams from Naruto’s graduation year and team Guy along with Jueria, Shissune, Tsunade and Iruka. In the background, stood all of Kakashi’s deceased friends, the Fourth Hokage, Obito, Rin, the Third and several others. The dead shinobi where painted to appear see through, like ghosts. The detail of the painting was remarkable. The setting of the painting was at the memorial stone and the stone itself was in the very middle of the front. If he looked coldly, he could even read the names on the stone.
“Where did you get this?” He breathed.
“I told Sia what I wanted and he did it for me. See,” Naruto pointed to one side, “he even put himself in.” Naruto studied him intently, “Do you like it?”
“Like it? How could I not like it? This is the best present anyone could ever have gotten me. How ever did you think of it Naruto?” The beauty of the gift floored Kakashi. If he hadn’t already come to the conclusion that he loved the blond, then this would have tipped the scale.
“I always see you at the monument. I wanted you to have a peace of it with you hear as wall as a reminder that a lot of living people hold you dear as well.”
“Naruto?”
I know that I will never be anything to you but your student Kakashi sensei, but I love you very much and have for a long time now.” Kakashi sucked in a sharp breath. “I just wanted you to know that you have precious people again that would be heart broken if anything where to ever happen to you.” He finished in a rush.
Jumping to his feat, Naruto made a mad dash for the door.
He didn’t’ get very far as Kakashi’s strong fingers wrapped around his wrist. “ Now that Sakura has finally passed the Chunnen exam, I will no linger be your teacher.”
Naruto cried out in horror and spun about to face his loved one. “So would you mind if I started to think of you as my lover?” Kakashi finished.
Naruto stood frozen for a moment before the reality of Kakashi’s words sank in. Suddenly, Kakashi has an arm full of contained energy and the sweetest lips where pressed against his own. “Only if I can think of you in the same way” Naruto whispered in his ear.
