Dan bought us tickets to see the premier of Iron Man 2 at midnight at the Arclight Theater in Hollywood. This is supposed to be a fancy-schmancy theater more on the level of play-theater than your average cinema. Our tickets were for the 12:01 am showing in the third row of "The Dome," which had a large screen and great sound.
We left the apartment just before 10 pm so we would make it to Hollywood with time to spare. I realized about 8 minutes after we left that I had forgotten my camera, but figured that it didn't matter overly-much since we were just seeing a (highly anticipated) movie.
Just before the movie came on at midnight, Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. walked out to introduce the film. They were standing literally 15 feet away almost directly in front of my 3rd row seat, and all I had was my crappy 3 1/2 year old camera phone to desperately try to get a decent photo with in a dimly lit theater. Dan tried with his phone, too, but it was busy dying and wouldn't let him do anything.
This is the best I got, and this is after Dan lightened it on Photoshop so you could actually see RDJ and Favreau.
It was a total surprise. It was exhilarating and completely awesome. Aside from getting autographs at The Big Bang Theory, this is the closest I've been to a celebrity. I felt like I could have nearly reached out and touched him. AAAAAHHHHHHH I CAN'T GET OVER THE AWESOME.
Other than that, the movie was great. It was everything I'd hoped the sequel to my favorite movie would be. I avoided any and all mention of Iron Man 2 in the weeks leading up to the release, so I had no idea what to expect. I had no clue who the villain was, or whether or not certain people would appear, or any number of a bunch of other things. It was AWESOME and I can't wait to see it again.
And now, bedtime. I have a busy busy weekend ahead of me, but I don't know if I can sleep!!!
