We just had an earthquake! It felt like my upstairs neighbor was running around for the first couple of seconds, but then it started getting stronger. It was a shaky/jolty/rolling motion. I felt like it was more up and down than side to side, so that was a bit strange. Jewel was between the diningroom and the living room when it hit. She looked a bit concerned at first, and when it got stronger she shot off like a bolt and hid under the coffee table -- the sturdiest table in the house! She peaked out from under to see what was going on, and it was adorable. She got some gooshyfood afterwards, and she's fine now. And now she's cuddling like a needy little fiend. *loves* Turns out, it was a magnitude 5.0 earthquake centered around the Hawthorne/Lenux area, which is about about 40 miles north/northwest of here. Apparently there was a 3.1 aftershock about ten minutes after the initial quake, but I didn't feel it.
Edit: It's been revised back down to 4.7 (the original estimate)
earthquake!
