i met ira in october of 2004. she came over to help l. paint his new apartment. after inhaling hours worth of paint fumes, we were laying down on the tarp on the floor and everything was hysterical. for some reason i remember that we drank beer and tea. it was a good day.

ira smiled at everyone and her laugh was contagious. she sparkled with life. she was brilliant, beautiful, a weaver of words, a dancer, a witch. a girl who could make you feel at home in a trash can. a girl who would do cartwheels down the street in a skirt and laugh at a funeral.

ira graduated from law school this summer and went to nepal a few days ago. she posted on FB, less than 24 hours ago, saying she's at the airport in kathmandu and can't wait to get to the mountains.

she died today, on her 30th birthday.

i wish we had a chance to drink glühwein in your kitchen. i wish we kept in closer touch.
i miss you.

goodbye irisha.
