You know, sometimes I forget that I live in the Midwest where a great many people are still scared to death of gay people.
It's still a shock when some jerkoff opens his mouth and starts going off on how it's not "scientific," how you need both parts and blah-de-blah-blah.
Ugh.
And you just know people who trot out the "science" argument are the same people who think the world was created in six days and god is a big beard in the sky and there were dinosaurs on the ark.
I was nice about it. I may have been a bit mocking when I asked, "Does it threaten your manliness?" but I tried to just say that I think it's nice we live in an era where people are learning to be more accepting.
There's no way to convince someone in an argument that bigotry is wrong. By the same token, it's pretty damn pathetic to watch someone try to convince me that actually I should hate people for things over which they have no control and which cause me no harm whatsoever.
It's just talking past each other. I stand by my belief. I wonder if this is going to cause problems...unfortunately, the guy is a high-ranking student at the Muay Thai school where I train. I was pretty sure he was an asshole, and now...well, now my opinion has dropped a whole lot lower. I'm also not 100% sure but I think he may have made a racist comment as well.
I get tired of dealing with people's bigotry and ignorance. It's as if people go out of their way to have as much hatred for other people as possible. Why? What the hell is the point of living your life like that?
