Well I mean it's not like I've never seen dead stuff before, but it's just been a theme since I woke up today. It's always weird when it comes out of nowhere. And I mean, you see dead stuff on the road all the time but you usually don't have time to watch it struggle. Erg.

I guess it's not death that gets to me so much as suffering beforehand. Well, and the flies didn't help. -_-

My bet is it had distemper. Kills a lot of young raccoons, causes strange behavior and seizures.

Hmm, that could be it. Off to read the Wikipedia!

Holy crow. Yeah, I totally get the 'it's not the death but the suffering' bit.

I happened upon a baby bunny in a park last year (you weren't at Blendon Woods, were you?), crawling in pain but half-eaten by big green flies. I wish I'd had the guts to kill it, then and there. All I could bring myself to do was put in in the shade, where at least it was cool.

So sad.

Oh man, I don't think I'd be willing to handle something like that. I was definitely thinking maybe I should find a sharp stick, but then it stopped moving and frankly that was just as well. Nobody wants to take a break from an evening stroll through
the park to commit a little evening slaughter. Bleagh.

Saw a scalped bird on the sidewalk walking home a couple of years ago. My first thought was wishing I had a shovel to kill it and put it out of its misery. Perhaps it lived, I dunno, it was pretty spry -- I probably wouldn't have been able to nail it anyways. Didn't even own a shovel at the time.

How does a bird get scalped? I'm not sure I could've killed it either, though. Smashing things with a shovel is (fortunately) not really my style.

Nature is a cruel bitch. Which actually explains a lot about a lot.

Eep! This makes me think of when I was 12-13 and doing a scavenger hunt in the historical area of my hometown. I was with another girl in this old graveyard when a squirrel fell out of a tree and landed right in front of us. We were trying to figure out how to get it help, but then it died. D:

Squirrels falling out of trees. So weird. Kudos for wanting to be responsible, anyway. It's hard to know what to do with those guys. They're natures lunatics.
