The only way i was able to break one of our cats (the only one i had when he was still a kitten) of that habit was to scruff him immediately, put him on the floor, and give him a firm shake. It took forever, but he did get it eventually.

Of course, he still liked to leap out from corners and nom my knees. That shit only stopped years later, when we got other cats for him to chase around and work out some of his energy on.

I actually started scruffing him today, and he seemed to caught on... Somewhat. I would put him on the floor and then he would come back up and repeat. D: After the third time, he settled down.

Thanks for the reminder to scruff him!

Naughty cats!

My cat has learned not to nip at me -- at least, not so much that it hurts me. When she plays too rough I grab her by the back of neck and said firmly, "No!" She understood after a while and now when she nips, it's gentle and cute.

Good luck with your little nipper!

Thanks, Nicky! Started scruffing him today and said, "NO," but he looks at me like, "HUH" with his bored, slit eyes. I could tell he was steamed at me! But lessons must be taught, even with a petulant brat. xD

Hehe, Ashlin sounds like Kitty so much. He's so affectionate and then all of a sudden chomp. I personally find it really adorable even though it hurts, I just think its part of his crazy I'm a feral cat personality and I've never bothered with controlling it because its just the way he is, I think its more of an affection chomp that hurts... It's funnier in the mornings when he's hungry he'll chase me up and down the hall and be all nice and then all of a sudden attack my ankles and then be all nice again.
If he is annoying me though I do "hiss" at him and he gets the point pretty clearly and runs away.

I think it is a love bite, but I ain't feelin the love!

I've tried hissing at him, and it worked the first few times, but now he looks at me and rolls his eyes!

I chuckle when I read articles that refer to cats giving "love bites", because I certainly have NEVER felt love when I am being bitten.
*crossing fingers for you that he stops*

I know! I totally agree! If his teeth were flat, we could talk, but they're like prickly pears. D:
