7 interests:
assembling boxed furniture, financial planning, lifehacks, nerdy tv, quotes as conversation, the princess bride, writing with markers
I like my icons to represent moods; this is the one I have set for "happy".
I love Babylon 5. I love the character Capt. John Sheridan. This icon is from an episode where the government tries to offset some of the space station's operational costs by opening a souvenir shop. The bear is wearing a baseball jersey with the initials J.S. Commander Ivanova points out that the cute little teddy bear is supposed to represent him, a war hero. The picture is from the split second before Sheridan orders Ivanova to shut down the souvenir shop.
This little icon is set to "silly" all the way home.
It's from the British tv show Coupling. Two of the characters had their (drunken) first kiss to the old Spiderman theme song. Circumstances kept them apart for awhile, but eventually the guy makes a bit of a hoopla asking the girl out. His buddies Steve and Jeff do the Spiderman dance to help him out. (You might also recognize Jack Davenport, the actor who played Capt Norrington in the Pirates of the Caribbean, as one of the dancers).

Really, c'mon. Can anyone do bafflement and outrage at stupidity as well as Lewis Black? Nuff said.

Assembling boxed furniture:
putting together furniture that comes in a box. It's fun. Something is accomplished at the end. The pieces fit together to create something useful. I get to puzzle out what those terrible instructions really mean in three dimensions. 15 units of furniture in my room, I have assembled . I considered being a carpenter for awhile, until I realized I would probably maim myself with one of the power tools in a klutz attack.
Financial planning:
Okay, so my interest list may be a little outdated. This is from back when I was all into accounting. It's not so much an interest as it is a goal. I realize that being smart about money will make the rest of my financial life much easier. Acting on that realization, however, is a little bit slower coming... Though I have compared bank rates online; my credit union doesn't do too badly.
Lifehacks:
Hackers are all about finding new ways to make existing things better.
Lifehackers apply that beyond the computer. Like their article about how to get
eyeglasses for $40. Browsing
43folders.com's most popular posts is an interesting way to pass time. Makes me feel hopeful, and occasionally I pick up something useful that stays with me.
Nerdy tv:
...by which of course I mean I like to watch PBS, discovery, foodnetwork, history channel, etc. Go nerds! Woot!
Quotes as conversation:
Every nerd I know does this. Take quotes from tv and movies, mostly sci-fi/fantasy, and put them in conversation. It gets especially awesome when it goes beyond two quotes... Imagine scenarios this long quote-string would fit:
And why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves up.
Get off your encounter-suited butt and do something!
I am Jack's smirking revenge.
To the pain!
Fear is the mind-killer.
Bow to death, Harry!
I think there is more to this hobbit than meets the eye.
God, I'm such a geek. Squee! ! <3 &33|<5
The Princess Bride:
One of the greatest movies ever. The book is awesome too. I'm not sure if I could understand a person that doesn't like this movie. Is that even possible?
Writing with markers:
I prefer ballpoints to pencils. I prefer felt tips to ballpoint. I prefer markers to felt tips because they come in lotsa colors! Pretty, pretty colors. And they don't smear under my left-handedness! Plus, I have some that write in metallic colors, and some that write in glitter! Markers are just awesome...
