CA trip was good. Plane ride down had some turbulence, which made the whole thing more fun and much shorter. Had El Pollo Loco, yummy good. Janet's still Janet. Wedding was nice, food was good, yummy cake, pretty park, Janet looked sweet & pure. The couple is all smitten with each other. Brandon liked Magic Mountain, and I got to go on 4 rides that I'd never been on before. The lines were crazy short 'cause everyone was back in school. Disneyland fireworks weren't as cool as I remembered them; seems there's some new regulation about firework height, so the show didn't seem to take up the whole sky which was my favorite feature. The parking system is all complicated now. Lines were short there too, did space mountain something like 6 times. Fullerton's Mongolian BBQ seems to have suffered from lack of Kevin's patronage; they're not letting people pick how much meat anymore, you have to tell the waitress what type(s) you want and then she brings it out. It was nice to have biscuit pockets again though, mmm. The Game Castle is gone. All Star Games is gone. There's a wargame/comics/rpg store in Brea where I got some dice, minis, and a small mini case for traveling. Totally forgot about Brea's Best once we were there. Swung by the old house, which looks nice, and said hello to Chuck and Helen. Walked all around Craig Lake Park, which was very nice. Looked around at Borders by the fwy. Looked at a used book shop closer to the hotel and I picked up Dragonspell, Ringworld, and Pawn of Prophecy. Had cheap Mexican food. Spent the last day talking with Janet at her apartment, tormenting her cats, enjoying her artwork and photography, and having In'N'Out and Foster Freeze. At the San Fransico Airport on the way back to Seattle, we finally had some California Cuisine at a place called the Willow Creek Grill. Super yummy. I had penne in a vodka sauce with roasted chicken and garlic fries. It was so good I got a box to take it home.
Went to the Dead Can Dance concert at the Paramount Theatre with the most of the gaming group Sunday night. I had heared a few of their songs but I hadn't listened to their albums so I wasn't expecting how diverse their song styles were. It almost seems like 2-3 bands. The stage setup was not as beautiful as their music so I watched the lighting effects change the fancy theatre decorations instead. A major point of a concert is to enjoy the atmosphere and ambiance, yes no? Plus the enjoyment I got from being too weird even in a group of weirdos way overbalanced my annoyance with the bouncy, reeking pothead next to me. The last song was strange. I appriciate the artists' need to explore genres and grow musically, but Lisa Gerrard singing the blues is kinda like Whitney Houston singing Janis Joplin; it's just not the same soul. The concert ended early enough that I didn't have to go home early for school the next morning. My first concert.
School is busy. We're learning reflexology of the foot already. My fingers feel very strange with the nails so severely short. Busy busy busy. I'm not really friends with anybody but I can at least participate in group conversations at break time without everyone stopping and looking at me. Sometimes people share my table at lunch and we chitchat. Don't really get repeaters, though it's only been two weeks.
Thursday was Brandon's birthday. Heather drove us around Seattle and took us to a great vegetarian Chinese restaurant called Bamboo Gardens. Muy delicioso.
My gerbil was sick for awhile. He got really skinny Friday. The vet had an opening last Saturday. He was getting better on Sunday, but the strain of healing must've been too much. He died this morning before school. He's buried next to his brother. I took the day off from school. <3 Brandon stayed on the phone with me almost all morning.
(No Spoilers) I saw Serenity Friday night with Heather and her friend John, and Brandon. I liked it a lot. Humor enough to be light, cheesy enough to be a bit of a guilty pleasure but witty enough to retain pride, just enough drama, not an over-reliance on action considering one of the characters is very gung ho and another is basically a ShadowRun physical adept, and still a hint of mystery about some old questions. Daring dramatic plot choices. Good visual effects. The camera does a couple of annoying things (shaky in space, circles around objects/people repeatedly- hello slight motion sickness) but they generally add to the mood so I wasn't really bugged by them. Very interesting characters. Very interesting bad guy, kinda how I imagined Simon Illyan. I'm gonna go see it again. BTW, dad meant that he'd see Serenity- when it comes out on cable.
There. Now that I've caught up on LJ, I might make it to the small mountain of laundry....
