So, I'm more than half-way through the first season of Ashes to Ashes, the follow up to Life on Mars. For me it started off with a bang, no pun intended, but it feels like in the last two episodes, the show has sort of plateaued.
Not that I am complaining about the great chemistry between Glenister and Hawes. Honestly, that's what keeps me watching. I guess the same thing happened when I watched LoF, however, I feel this series far surpasses its predecessor. As much as I love John Simm, his Sam Tyler bordered on whiny and annoying at times. I never get that feeling with Alex Drake. Her attitude is more "Let's get on with it" and lends itself well to the series. Then again, Drake has the advantage of knowing a bit more of what's happening to her than Tyler. My only complaint is that Alex's wardrobe needs more variety. I don't know how many days pass in each episode, but it's like she wears the same thing to work everyday. I would like to think that even in my subconscious I'd hate showing up to work in the same off-the-shoulder shirt 4 to 5 days in a row. Also, who would have thought that DS Ray Carling would be the character to experience the most personal growth. Everyone else seems to be holding to their cast-iron molds.
As a result of the last episode, I have this playing on a loop in my head. Thanks Human League!
Don't, don't you want me
You know I can't believe it when I hear that you won't see me
Don't, don't you want me
You know I don't believe you when you say that you don't need me
It's much too late to find
You think you've changed your mind
You'd better change it back or we will both be sorry
Don't you want me baby, Don't you want me oh
Don't you want me baby, Don't you want me oh
