The world in the mirror

Oct 03, 2007 19:02

Today on the drive home from work, a surreal experience. As I was driving eastward on the Mass Pike, everything looked normal in front of me - blue sky, green and orange road signs, red brake lights on the cars in front of me and the usual color pallette of cars and SUVs. I happened to glance in the rearview mirror and was shocked: the world in the rearview mirror was black and white!

I even turned around, i couldn't believe my eyes. The setting sun illuminated it all in a eerie sepia hue. amazingly - all the cars in sight were colorless - different shades of gray and white - on dark gray pavement, a greyish sepia sky, not a patch of color in sight. I looked forward again - and the sky was blue and everything looked normal. In the mirror - black and white. This lasted a good few minutes, until a schoolbus stole into view and broke the illusion.

(i'm glad i didn't forget to write this up by the time i got home :-))
