They're Back!
The house wrens are back! They are so cute. Today I went out to clean out the nest box they used last year... because last spring I saw the little male empty another nest box one twig at a time (not my nest box, or I would have helped him out), and then decide against using it and move into ours. I guess ours was a little too big (it is about 6"x5"x5" inside), because when I opened it up I saw that they had filled it with largish twigs, all in a tangle. Then I noticed a tiny nest of fine grasses woven together right at the back. So they go in the hole, through the twigs to get to the nest. Pretty good security system! I left it all in place. I bet they will re-use it as is. It was very clean.
