Mother
Just a couple thoughts. Thoughts built upon a recurrent theme.
A birthday celebration for my older brother, organized and invited by my mother. Can’t say the last time that happened for me. Years and years.
A late night text thread, a family thread. Awaken to long messages from my brother from far away, in hospital with COVID. He was released so hopefully it isn’t terribly serious. But just a few texts later, mother has turned the topic to herself, her work. This happens regularly. Any topic can swiftly be turned to her work, herself. I have been the one she has taken the shine from in the past but this morning, to take the focus from my sick brother, her son, upset me quite a lot.
