This sort of thing happens in New York with regularity. If I choose to give a homeless person money, it generally has very little to do with whatever story they're telling me, because it might be true and it might as well easily not be true, but the point is that they need the change more than I do, right? But yeah, live in the city enough and you'll soon become familiar with every story in the book.
