There are three main topics in poetry. Death. Love. Lust. Maybe there is a fourth, but its escaping my mind at the moment.
It’s 9am in the morning, and I just came back from Joey’s. Spending time with him is the thing I look forward to the most nowadays, ever since he moved into the city. But the same questions still remain. Maybe time will tell, and maybe not.
And about Poetry…. Wednesday’s Pride Poetry reading was a blast! Being in a room full of creatives, with people sharing their poetry to an audience, is an experience that is wholly different from my everyday experiences. Some of the more esteemed poets who performed that night included (I’m dropping names here) Duncan Teague, Rebecca Ranson, Collin Kelley, and Theresa Davis. I just felt so honored and humbled being invited to speak and share my poetry with such a creatively powerful group. When I was up on the podium, I had a flashback to my days back in Saint John’s School, going up to the podium to give a speech, and managing to fumble through something I had written, choreographed, and planned the night before to be succinct and to the point. It would be in that moment before I spoke that I would suddenly forget all of my pre-thought actions, and would then wing it, after taking a deep breath and putting my mind in that moment. That state of mind where the only person you are aware of is yourself. It is a feeling akin to speaking to yourself in the mirror.
Afterwards, a few of us went to El Azteca and talked, drank, and ate and just talked. When you put a few creative queens and a dyke in a table together, you know that hilarity can ensue.
I think that the biggest thing that struck me that night was the fact that yes, I should pick up my pen again and start writing poetry again. Duncan Teague is the senior member of
ADODI Muse: A Gay Negro Ensemble, and that just put an idea in my head. How about starting a Queer Asian writing group in Atlanta? God knows there are enough Asian queens in Atlanta, and something is needed to break down the antagonism we Azn Queens have towards each other. We could encourage each other to write, to perform, and to share each others’ works. Now the hard part is trying to reach out to other Queer Azn Creatives out there. I played with the idea of posting ads on all of the online cruising sites, but that will take a backseat until i have exhausted traditional means of contact.
In other words,
contact me if you know of any Queer Azn Creatives (QAC) in Atlanta. Collin gave me some pointers, such as going to Java Monkey every Sunday for their poetry readings (which I went to last Sunday, and was, a BLAST! Joey was there. made my heart warm.), and going to poetry events at GaTech, which I think is a wonderful idea, and not just because of the hot Tech boys.
When someone mentions Tech boys, someone inside of me drools.
Went to Screen on the Green last night. The movie was the Hitchcock classic
The Birds, and I must say that despite the age of the film, there is still the element of thrill that Hitchcock so wonderfully perfected. Joey came. trying to be affectionate with him is still hard for me. I was a fag and decided to prepare a full dinner for a few friends. Baby Oysters Tossed in Linguine and a Cream Sauce. Roasted Seasoned Potatoes. And for people who wanted something light, Tuna Salad with a dash of Dijon Mustard and Corn, served on white bread. It was a movie about birds, so I decided not to include any chicken or fowl on the menu.
