So I had a bigger scare today. I woke up to my face still being as numb as it was last night. I decided to buy some Claritin on the way to work and thought it was helping when I finally got some feeling in my teeth.
Two hours into work, I started feeling a headache, and while perusing some symptom charts online, I really, really, got scared when all my symptoms correlated to a stroke, which is really, really rare for people my age. But with the medical history of my family, I decided to take no chances, and left work and checked myself into the ER at Piedmont Hospital. I called the Princess as I was entering the ER, leaving him a message telling him where i was, and that I was going to be ok.
So I checked myself in, which got a few weird looks from the nurses (I mean, who checks himself in to the ER anyways?). The nurses and Doctor saw me shortly, and after some questions, the Doctor determined that I might just have
Bell’s Palsy, since the risk of s stroke was really, really low, as mentioned. We had a CT scan just in case, which came out fine.
The Princess picked me up from the hospital after noon, and we went to pick up my prescriptions (some antiviral drugs and come cortisonals), and we had lunch at Figo on the Westside. I slept the whole rest of the day, and had dinner with the roommate and Michael and Albert at the Flying Biscuit. And afterwards the roommate and I went home to catch Fag Hags on Ice (Also known as the Women’s Figure Skating Olympic Finals).
It’s been an interesting day. As of right now, I’m still having no feeling on my right side of my mouth and chin, and my teeth and gums have regained enough feeling for me to chew. Hopefully I’ll be able to regain full muscle control and feeling in a few weeks (I can smile with some effort now), since it’s temporary, and I’m having treatment now.
Still, what a scare.
